I also peel mine under running water - for me the water seems to gently get under the shell and it seems to release from the egg easier. |
LOL! This is so funny, I reply, go take a nap and find we are on page two about boiling eggs! :) :p ;) Where is Ann? Oh, she is in the kitchen boiling eggs. hahaha :) |

I place the water and the eggs in a pan, let it come to a rapid boil. Then turn off the water and let them set in the pan for about 10-13 minutes. This is the easiest way to cook them and they always come out perfect for me. Plus if you are doing Easter eggs, the shells stay intact without breaking this way. |

Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! I can add something to this convo! If you want to get fancy, you should know that the proteins in the egg coagulate (harden) at slightly different temperatures. The temperature of boiling water is actually not ideal for eggs. If you do them at a lower temperature, you can get these beautiful, custard-y egg whites, with a bright yellow yolk that's like a piece of play-doh. It's really cool. AND, you don't even need to do them in water!! You can cook them in the oven! If anyone is interested, I can post the temperatures for different egg "done-ness". Some of it just depends on your tastes. |
Well, I don't remember where I read or maybe saw it, but evidently I was over-boiling mine for years. And I found it works perfectly. My Mom agreed. Place eggs in water Add Salt Boil for about 8-10 mins Remove from heat & cover with lid Eggs will continue to cook perfectly After a few mins & preparing other things, I then Holding lid with pot holder, drain hot water Run cold water over eggs to cool It really doesn't take too long I then crack eggs slightly by tapping Add cold water back into pot with eggs Let them sit in cold water for a while This helps to remove shell While removing shell, I also run water over egg Works like a charm!:):eggs: |
Well Ann, I thought I remembered a YT thread that was hilarious about boiling eggs @Easter. Found it....hope you enjoy!!:p http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/off...ht=easter+eggs |
Wow! All of this talk of boiled eggs. Can someone tell me how to prepare deviled eggs? I love them!:D |
Deviled eggs are easy. cut the eggs longwise and remove the yolk add mayo untill they are the consistancy you want. Add vinegar. I never measure I just add a capful at a time untill I have the flavor I want. Then I fill the egg whites with the yolk mixture and sprinkle with paprika and pepper. I found a good recipe for shrimp deviled eggs where you just add pieces of cooked shrimp to the yolk mixture that Im going to try also |

I add mayo, a little mustard with paprika sprinkled on top. Sometimes add vinegar Sometimes add pickle relish |
Just to throw another kink in the egg boiling process...here's how I make my boiled eggs. :) Step One: Buy a small Salad Master pot; it is essential!! You cannot use this method with any other pot, or so they tell me! Step Two: Wet a paper towel thoroughly with water and fold twice so you have a square. Lay the paper towel in the bottom of the pot. Step Three: Put desired number of eggs in the pot and put the lid on. Step Four: Set heat to medium and allow to cook for fifteen minutes for two eggs, if more than two eggs cook for around twenty minutes or so. Step Five: Run cold water over the eggs for a few minutes (in a separate bowl, not in the pot...) and then peel. Perfect boiled eggs every time and I rarely have any trouble getting the shells off!! My mom has a whole set of Salad Master pots and pans...best money she ever spent as she had them for over 25 years. Now I'm slowly collecting them a piece at a time because they can be pretty pricey. -C |

I hope this thread has multiple posts by the time she checks it out. Let's keep it going.:D My Mom always told me that "new" eggs would not peel as easily. I believe her, she's my Mom. haha Anyways, I always think of that when I boil eggs. I guess...... always have eggs in frig so you don't have to run to the grocery store in order to boil the "new"?? ones.;) |
