| Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Shih's are great dogs. They are just as hard/easy to train as any other toy dog. They are very loveable and just as ferocious protectors as Yorkies. Definitely big boys in small bodies. The only negative I can say healthwise is because of the floppy ears they are a bit prone to ear infections but if you clean and air out the air periodically you will be good to go.

| Oh, and another thing: Try to get your dog used to drinking from a water bottle that is attached to a kennel. Since their faces are so short and pug, they basically have to put their entire face in a bowl of water to drink. They end up with a wet, smelly face otherwise.

| The picture is sooooo pretty. Kacee has a little shih-tsu girl down the street that she plays with. They love each other and both love to play. I love what I've seen of them. Congratulations! You have a heart of gold.

| We have had our Daisy for 10 years. Sweetest dog on the planet. We would have gotten another but they do not tolerate heat well (short faces) and we like to take our babies everywhere. Daisy tolerates crazy Keifer well. I know I wouldn't be so patient if some little twirp kept trying to pull my face off! They snore and can be prone to bladder stones (Limit Calcium just in case) Also alot of them have a tendency to gain weight. Coats require a fair amount of work, Daisy takes hours to dry while all my Yorks have been wash and wear kids. Keifer is dry in 15 minutes or so. Enjoy your Shih Tzu. They are a joy! |

| Thanks everyone for the comments on Shih Tzu's. If my husband will ever consent to getting another dog, it will be a ShihTzu. I love their little faces. Rudys Mom (Dawn) |

| thankyou everyone for your help ![]() her coat wont be a problem as i will keep in short like my yorkies, and after a bath will use the hair dryer on her as im told she likes it. oh and yes im told she snores lol im use to that as my sasha and annie snored. shouldnt have a problem with her getting to hot not in the uk lol but as i said will keep the coat shorter and as i live in an old victorian house it has very high cilings and thick walls so it doesnt get that hot indoors in summer. didnt know about the stones so thanks for that any other health problems in the breed?
