shih tzu im getting a shih tzu in the next couple of weeks, she is 19 months old and the lady needs to rehome her due to having to move to a no pets allowed flat so out of all the people who emailed her shes picked me to have her :) ive never had one b4 only yorkies, a friend has got one who was born blind bless him. so as i need to know a bit more about the breed is there any shih tzu mummys or daddys out there who can tell me a bit about their shih tzu please? |
My mother recently passed, so I gave my 5 year old Shih tzu to my father for company out in Los Angeles. Payton (my shih tzu) is a great pet, very calm, and was even when he was a puppy. Their temperaments are so different from the Yorkie. He wasn't necessarily a cuddler, more of a "contact" dog. He was fine to just lay up against your foot or leg. But he was an independent boy, fine by himself or with others. I have two children that basically grew up with Payton, and they got along perfectly. My daughter thought he was her own personal baby doll and poor Payton was stuffed in all types of outfits, and never did he snap at her. He was a sturdy dog, 11 pounds but still quite small. Compact. Slept through the night from the very beginning. Only barked when someone rang the doorbell. I miss my boy. You'll enjoy your Shih tzu, believe me. Oh yeah, the potty training took about 8 months to get to the point where I trusted him fully in our home, but once he got it, we NEVER had accidents. He could hold his peepee like a champ. |
the ONLY problem i have heard from people is that there had to potty train but you have a yorkies so.... i have never heard anything bad about them |
Yeah, but no harder than the Yorkie. As a matter of fact, Payton wouldn't use the potty in the crate.....that may be because he was larger at 8 weeks than my Cali is. Payton was already 4 lbs. Cali was only 1.3 lbs. She is now 2.1 lbs. and still has absolutely no problem pottying in the crate. Drives me crazy. I believe the Shih tzu are quite smart, though. So they get the idea eventually. |
I have one and he will be 2 in March. Laziest thing I have ever seen. I have to force him to go outside to use the bathroom. If I don't go with him he will go on the porch..no kidding. If I take him in the yard he beats me back to the porch. He gets mad at my Yorkie when she is playing with her toys and making noise. All that said he still is a great dog. |
1 Attachment(s) hi i got two .male and female.and they are so easy to potty train than my yorkie.they are so sweet .funny.and playful..here they photo |
That's the one thing I've been thinking about for quite a while... buying a Shi-Tzu... usually people talk wonders about the breed, but I wanted to know their "dark side":D too (if there's any...;) ) My hubby doesn't like the idea of having a Shi-Tzu, but I'm working it on him:p Ps: We already have 1 yorkie girl and a friend of mine gave us another yorkie girl... |

Oh, but the snoring is kinda cute. We always thought that Payton's snoring meant he was content and comfortable. Man, I really miss Payton. |
