| Brothers/Sisters: What do you use on them? Okay, for our borthers/sisters (other furkids) what do you all use for flea/tick/misquito protection and for worms (like heartworm preventitive)? AND where do you get it? For all of mine, I am currently using Interceptor (which is a once a month preventitive that I believe covers all worms) and K9Advantix (once a month drop from vet - I picked this one because it covers misquitoes too - not just fleas/ticks). Is there anything better, cheaper, etc. that you have tried and liked?

| I use Heartguard plus and K9Advantix. Always have. The K9Advantix doesn't seem to be doing such a good job. The dogs are still bringing ticks in.

| I know, I seem to have noticed the same thing this past summer and even still, there are still ticks! The vet said that ticks were extremely bad this past year. She gave me (well, I bought two and got one free) a flea/tick collar like that called Preventive (or preventix) something like that. It was $15 from my vet office. There is always one that I found at my local vet supply store and it is at http://www.petedge.com - it is cheaper, like $6-7, it is called Zema Tick Detach. Those have seemed to work okay, and they last 3 months, but I still notice ticks. I just don't know what to do. I do not use the collar on Mojo, just the three big outside dogs. We used Heartguard w/ our Shihtzu, but this vet doesn't carry it. I remember that our Shihtzu (Buddy) actually liked to take it because it was in a form of a treat - the Intercepter is a very small pill, but we put it in a treat or boiled chicken for Mojo and the big dogs. There is something new all Natural Defense that is a once a month topical for fleas/ticks/misquitoes and it is only $9.99 - it is always at http://www.petedge.com. I wonder if it is better? Does anyone have any household tricks that they use for the ticks/fleas/misquitoes?

| I tried the Natural Defense and it didn't work at all! I think it helped them multiply even. LOL! I went back to the K9Advantix It doesn't seem to be getting all of the ticks but at least it has kept it down to a manageble number.

I told my Dad once that I felt that we pay along for the K9Advantix (especially w/ 4 dogs) that we shouldn't find a tick on them period! course, he said that if the product was that strong, it would hurt the animals (true)! Ticks have been bad this past year - I hope we have a nice cold winter to kill them or thin them out for this year. We have lots of deer here too, so that doesn't help! I check Mojo everytime he comes in, but he still needs something. The big dogs, they don't get checked everytime they come in, so I hope the K9Advantix gets better! HA

| I know what you mean about the price of it. I have 5 dogs so it costs me about 150.00 everytime I buy it. I guess it's worth it if it helps.

| I use Inteceptor (About 23.00 for 6 months) and Frontline (30.00 for 3 months). Since I have two small dogs, and the Frontline is for dogs up to either 10 or 20 lbs (I can't remember), I just use one little capsule on the two, and it seems to work just as good, plus they are less "greasy" than if I use the whole thing.

| Is it just K9 Advantix or all the others too. I thought they all had similiar ingredients when I checked them all out awhile back? There are so many side effects to just about anything we use anymore - it is scary and makes it hard to figure out what to use............. So........what do you use?

| I just bought some Frontline Plus for Mojo - but I think I might only use half the dosage each month because he is 5-5 1/2lbs and each dosage is for up to 22lbs! That just seems like too much to me. I asked the recept. at the vet office and she said that it would be fine to use the whole thing, but I just don't know. The Frontline Plus was cheaper too, not much, but alittle. I just hope it works better than what I was seeing w/ K9 Advantix. Mojo doesn't have fleas and we have never had a flea problem - our deal is ticks! Gotta love the country life! YUCK!

I use Revolution on Toby, and used Advantage on Lola as the vet recommended not to use Revolution until she was older and had a little more weight on her. Unfortunately, there are side effects to most of these -- and it is very scary. I think that some dogs react to different things. I do not use flea prevention year round -- just when we have a bad infestation. Usually a couple of months, two times a year. Good luck with your decision... | |

| I've been wondering, too about the safety of all these. I have read some disturbing things and am kind of scared to use these chemicals again. I don't want to put something on my babies that is going to hurt them in the long run, but where we live, they definately need something. I was looking at Natural Defense, too and am bummed to hear it didn't work. I mean, who knows in the long run what cancers or whatever these chemicals are causing in our pups? omega |
