Removal of baby tooth on Maltese Hi everyone, I have a Yorkie and a Maltese who are 7 months and they have both been teething recently. Last night the Maltese, Luna, was chewing on a rawhide bone and I happened to look over and I noticed that on her bottom right side, one of her teeth had come in behind the baby tooth. So I took a closer look and what I think to be the baby tooth is in front and possibly starting to rot. It had like a green color at the bottom of it. So I called the vet and she has to go in on Tuesday to be checked out and they said they may need to put her under to take the tooth. Now my question is does she have to go under? It just makes me nervous. Does anyone know if they can use local anesthesia? Or does anyone have any first hand experience with this who can give me some positive words? Thanks!

I'm sorry I don't know about whether they *must* be under for a tooth extraction. We had to have some of Bella's baby teeth taken out when she was being spayed - we did it at the same time because she was already going to be under. Has your little one been spayed yet? If so, did she handle the anesthesia ok? Good luck! I hope everything goes ok!

No she hasn't been spayed. We want her to have puppies with our Maltese so we were gonna wait til she was 2 or 3 years old.

i feel you! layla is loosing her teeth too... isn't really eating normally.. but i know when i try and look in her mouth.. it is a huge ordeal... if this is so with your yorkie.. can you imagine a vet trying to freeze the area with a needle?? lol.. just thinking about it makes me laugh cause i know layla would have nothing to do with it.. in the long run it will be less stressful for her to be put out.. layla will have to have some teeth pulled.. i think it is easier for all involved for them to be knocked out.. even tho it is stressful on us moms!

Yeah I know. The rational side of me knows its really the only way coz I can barely look in her mouth coz she won't let me so I doubt an injection can be put in. All I can do is hope for the best. I'll let you know what happens after Tuesday.
