It's so hard to have just one little one sick to worry about, but three is more than I can imagine. :( I'm sorry the vets aren't being more cooperative or responsive on the HW treatment! I can't offer you any advice there, but I'm praying Zoey can start treatment very soon.

Razzle's doctor however sounds wonderful. :) I can picture the scene above and it brought a smile to my face. Have to love a doctor who understands Razz's pain and fear and acknowledges it in such a loving way. Is this your general vet? Can he not help with the HW treatment for Zoey? I apologize if this has already been answered in this thread - I just don't know much about HW treatment.

Sending hugs for you, hubby and your munchkins,

Bonny

Yes Dr Jack is our new general vet; can you imagine I just moved all my animals over to him this year! I remembered him because he impressed me when I took Magic to him for acupuncture tx's about 2 yrs ago. Between our first visit and our second one he had obviously studied up on the breed as he was inquiring about some of the results of the breed specific genetic tests for BRT's.

And yes he is going to help with the heartworm treatment, he will prescribe her the doxy and the heartguard, I get to pick the medicine up on Friday:)
Also he will call OVC as they won't speak to me about the specifics of their heartworm tx, and will only speak to a referring vet.

He sounds like a wonderful doctor! I'm so happy he's stepping in to begin working with the HW issue. It's nice to see you :) again. ;)

Finally spoke with Dr Norris the specialist

Well Dr Norris was okay with her going on doxy and heartguard. The adulticide is supposedly in quality control at the manufacturer's and eta is unknown but likely a few weeks.

In terms of my email he doesn't like communicating that way, he understands many do, but he doesn't. He says that is what the appointment is for. I just asked what were the results of the heartworm test, and re-iterated that I wanted her on the doxy and heartguard as per the article I emailed to him that I wanted to discuss her tx options. Oh yes and he kept referring to Zoey as "he".

I also heard from the HR manager, prior to actually speaking with Dr Norris today; according to her he told her that he had tried to reach me (inference was several times , but that he was unable to reach me. I responded the first voice message I received was last evening and I returned his call 10 minutes later to be told that he had left for the day. I said if he had called earlier and left no message for me I would have no way of knowing if he called. She said she would let him know I was at home right now, and could be reached. I said thank you.

I am so glad you are finally getting somewhere with the specialist and that your awesome general vet is on top of things!! It sounds like he is an amazing doctor. Praying for Zoey and the rest of your crew!!!

It sounds like at least communication wise things are starting to turn around. It must be so difficult dealing with the 3 dogs AND trying to connect with everyone.

I hope Razzle"s blood draw is painfree tomorrow. It breaks my heart hearing how he cried. He is such a sweet, beautiful boy.

I'm so glad you are starting Zoey on the Doxy tomorrow.

Thanks Lisa me too. Don't know why he yelped, there was no unusual bleeding from the blood draw site at all. But he could have realized something was in his leg and got scared. Just don't know.

But he is running around and active as usual. so Im pretty sure his little leg isn't too sore.

Thanks yes I have been quite pleased with both the quality of the service and his knowledge base.

Not to mention keeping all the records straight:rolleyes: and paying all the bills. The front desk staff was thank ful when I reminded them I hadn't paid for a particular test (according to my records) And he is only charging me 1/2 of a vet visit for all these extra appts.

lisaly 06-02-2011 03:14 PM

I'm glad Razzle is running around like he usually does. I don't think much could hinder his dazzling spirit. I hope you are feeling better. I wish I could bring you some of my chicken soup. All that you are going through makes Long Island and Toronto seem so far away from each other. You remain always in my heart, thoughts, and prayers.

lisaly 06-03-2011 01:30 AM

I hope you are feeling much better today, Gail. I will be there with you in spirit as you take Razzle to see Dr. Jack. I hope you receive very positive blood results on Magic and Razzle, that your sweet Razzle enjoys seeing Dr. Jack, and that your discussion about Zoey's treatment goes well.

Update: Today's general vet visit

Zoey now has her heartguard and doxy! Yeah. Adulticide is at quality control, eta unknown.

Magic' liver profile came back normal. I'm kind of stunned with that one. But cautiously happy. We will retest in 2 mths or so.

Razzle had his blood drawn for a full thyroid panel. How-ever his post prandial BATS was 56 pre was 4. I will likely retest again in a couple of months.

So feeling okay right now, tired but am enjoying one of the few sunny warm days we have had so far this spring.

Patti 06-03-2011 02:31 PM

Glad to hear Zoey has the medicine now and that Magic's liver profile came back normal. Hopefully you will get good news on Razzle. A sunny day helps lift ones spirits.

I am so sorry it has been so frustrating trying to get the proper medications. It is really surprising that they would not be manufacturing more of the HW medicine so that it is on hand for immediate access for the sick animals. That said Dr Jack sounds like a wonderful, caring vet and I am glad he is starting the treatment. I just hope all goes well for you and all your sweet babies.

AllDogBoots 06-03-2011 03:20 PM

Today's vet visit seemed positive. I hope it's all uphill from here.

jadabug 06-03-2011 03:26 PM

I am so glad that Zoey has began her treatment!! Sounds like today was a good visit and I would hang on to that wonderful vet you have, he sounds like a good and caring doctor. Glad to hear that Magic's blood work came back good. I don't know anything about the tests on Razzle but hope everything is good.
