Please keep Zoey in your thoughts and prayers Our BRT girl Zoey, has had a positive test come back for heartworm. Tomorrow I take her back in for a more specific test for the microfilia. I am beyond myself with worry. We have two other dogs here that have yet to be tested, they go in next week. I am very sad to say that "we" have not been in full compliance with the preventative medication, a fact that I just learnt from my husband last night, when discussing the results of our last vet visit last Friday. My husband has apologized most profusely to me; but I am livid, livid, livid. He can't recall exactly what months he missed! I am just trying to focus on the next step. Please say a prayer for our Zoey girl. |
I'm sorry about Zoey, Gail. I'll pray for a smooth recovery period for her, and for negative test results on the others. Do you have a very high incidence of HW where you're at? |
Saying prayers for Zoey and you too. Sending hugs to you both! |
Hopfully, the next test will be negative. I do all the medical record documentation at the shelter I volunteer at and I have seen several where the first less sensitive test shows up positive but the more advanced test is negative. I will keep my fingers crossed. |
Sending prayers and good thought for a recovery for Zoey. Fingers crossed for a negative future testing. |

Oh man~I'm so sorry that you had a positive testing for HW with Zoey. There have been plenty of fosters in YHR that have gone through the treatment very successfully. I will check back for updates tomorrow when you have more information from your vet. On an up note, at least you had the blood work taken and will be able to treat her properly. |

I'll pray for Zoey... there is a new strain of HW that is not killed by any of the accepted methods in use today. Also, they're questioning how well all of them are working. Technically, if one skips a month here and there, it won't hurt. Which product do you use? I think HeartGard works a bit longer than two months... So don't be too mad at DH... till they determine the strain.... and one more little known fact: cold weather does not kill all mosquitoes... I saw some flying around a bush last winter... it was 17 deg. F (below freezing) and snow on the ground.... |
Poor little Zoey (and her stresse out Mommy)! I feel for you - I would be upset too. Will keep Zoey, mommy and other pups in our prayers. |

Update Vet Visit this AM Luckily when I did the heart worm test I had a full blood panel done. Blood results were pretty good. Protein up a smidgen, thryoid low end of normal. WBC normal in particular the eosinophils. Vet said that he would expect a higher esoinophil level if she was actively fighting off an infection. Next step; wait two days for test result for this specific microfilia test. If positive: Xray lungs and heart. Does anyone know the Best Practices treatment protocol for heartworm? The websites so far I've looked at have not been so specific. |
