Meet Andre!!!!

This striking little handsom devil is now a member of my family! He was "born/hatched" on July 15th and is 5 months old!

We are taking it slow on introducing everyone

, its funny, I thought the cats would be freaking out but they took a look and walked away! Now the Yorkies are going nuts! Especially Brooklyn, he won't leave his cage (the cage is high, he can't get to him) but its like he is stalking him!

We are working on whistling a few tunes to start, but I hope to teach him some words as well!

Aww, congratulations on your new addition

Besides yorkies, I love birds, I have 10 right now. We don't have any cockatiels at the moment, but he looks just like my Scooter( he lived a nice long life) he could talk, but he loved to whistle and listen to music, would just bob along with it

I know you will enjoy having Andre in your life

Oh how cool! TEN! Wow! What do you have??? Andre is my first bird ever

Well I am working with him. The breeder I bought him from didn't handle him or have him out so I am trying to teach him "step Up" and getting him out of the cage. Ohhhh and he loves to bite me. But once out of the cage he seems to not bite and he even preens me and will let me give him kisses and snuggle him with my cheek, but getting him out....thats another story! LOL

Hi and Congratulations on adding Andre' to the family. I used to have Cockatiels. My Fav was Rocky. He lived for 7 years and could he ever talk and whistle movie and songs. Whatever you do do not burn candles or use a new teflon pan around him My neighbor killed 2 of his Cockatiels that way. Just wanted to post a warning to Cockatiel owners!! Thanks for sharing the video, He's a real cutie...

Hi! Wow really????????? I burn candles all the time???? Should I not burn them in the house at all or just in the same room??? I didn't know this! I did read they were very sensitive to smells though.

I used to have a bird just like him!!

Mine was named Bombay and we treated him like a dog.

He would follow us around saying, "Come here!". He also did just about any whistle..his favorite was the wolf whistle.

He also would tell us, "POPCORN!" when he wanted a snack. He said, "I love you" and gave kisses....he liked to dance to music...would sit on top of his cage and bob his head to his favorite songs. He also liked to say his own name and to call me momma. He would also walk down the hallway and fly to the base of my leg and climb all the way to my shoulder whenever I was tryign to get ready to go somewhere...he loved to stand on my shoulder and stare at himself in the mirror and say, "Pretty boy".

You will have a lot of fun with your new baby....I know I did with Bombay!

Awww he sounds awesome! I HOPE Andre is like that!!! Right now , he can be a little grumpy LOL. he whistles what HE wants to whistle, but I'm trying to teach him the Whooooot Whooooooo one right now. He isn't doing it yet though.

I hope I can get him to talk too!!!! he is pretty cool and will be very spoiled!

Yes, that's the wolf whistle...that was Bombay's favorite.

Well, I have several different ones, a macaw, african greys, IRN, greencheek conure, quaker and 4 parrotlets. Once he gets more used to you, he will probably get easier to handle, although my Scooter never did let me touch him much, but he liked to preen us

Also, I have been bitten by all my birds cept for my quaker, Emma. I am petsitting for my niece's parrotlet and he is the same way, he bites when you put your hand in his cage, but once out he is a sweetie, but then again parrotlets are known as the terriers in the bird world. Here is an older pic of myself with my Scooter and Bristol, our macaw.
BTW, you were smart to start with a cockatiel, we got Bristol first before any others, sometimes I really wonder why, lol. Like someone else said watch out with fumes, I don't even own any teflon, that can be deadly to a bird

I forgot to ask.......what about already used teflon????

He's really pretty! He seems very friendly already. When he bites, try not to react and just blow on him until he stops. If he is on your finger, you can drop your hand a bit so he loses his balance a little and stops the biting.

I got rid of all my Teflon pots and pans when we got a bird. Teflon is Teflon- wither it is new or used. I still use the occasional appliance (George Forman grill, waffle maker, etc.) that has non-stick. I still burn candles.

I don't use aerosol air fresheners and the like though.

He is cutie! You cant use any teflon or burn candles or air fresheners or spray any aerosols around the bird. I heard of someone that sprayed perfume and it wasnt right around the bird and the bird died. I wanted a bird but I read up and it kind of scared me away from getting one. I have a Jenn air grill inside my house and we use it and it does put off some fumes when we do and I dont know how safe that would be for a bird. I would love to have a parrotlet or an african grey

Andre is so cute. Loved watching him eat from your hand. We have a female Latino Cockatiel that was given to us by our neighbors about 15 yrs. ago when they went to the mission field overseas. They kept her in a narrow, tall bird cage by an open window. She talks like the sparrows that sat outside on the bushes. When we got her we stopped clipping her wings and got a different larger cage for her. Later we figured out that she loved to have the cage door left open, sit on top of her cage with an occasional flight around the room, and back to her cage. When we got Duchess she seemed to always have a crusty nose. After we started allowing her to be free that disappeared. Our cat and the doggies all basically ignore her even when she occasionally lands on the floor. The Yorkies ususally come to me with their ears up telling me that something is up. I'm not much of a bird person but Duchess has been part of our lives for so long that it's hard to imagine not having her around.
