You just have to be consistent and quick. Associate the word with the spray. My trainer said with stubborn dogs who don't mind the water, to put a splash of apple cider viniger in the bottle of water... they hate the smell... She sprayed me to prove that it didn't sting (and it didn't, but it sure did stink!). I tried this once with my puppy when she was biting and wouldn't listen to "no" or my yelps. Needless to say, she never tried it again. I'm not sure if I would do that again---I was a young teen at the time with no experience with dogs. I don't really like that method because it's kind of mean.

If you are going to do the apple cider viniger...make sure it is apple cider. White viniger stings... I'm sure you know this.

| When I was first deciding what kind of dog I wanted, I would've loved either getting a yorkie or a maltese. Well needless to say, I got a little of both as Sasha is 3/4 yorkie and 1/4 maltese. I don't know much about malteses so I'm not sure what parts of her personality come from that part but she has so much of the yorkie personality that I think she only has the maltese size as she's pretty big for a standard yorkie. My mom is considering a maltese for after I move out since Sasha will obviously be coming with me and both my parents love having a dog around the house. All the malteses I've seen at my work have been delightful. They all do seem to have that high pitched bark though and I've seen some groomed wonderfully, but I've also seen one little guy just completely matted. I guess it just depends on the owner. They seem like delightful little dogs though. |
