| Ouchie.. do you ever get over it? i had to put my best friend to sleep a little over a year ago. She was a 20 yr old Bichon (?..we think at least thats what she looked like!). when I was 8 yrs old her "family" moved off and left her on some land my family owned. After abut a month my sister managed to catch her, at that time the vet said she was about 5 yrs old. She was my best friend, she grew up with me. Even a year and a few months after haviing her PTS at 20 yrs old, just typing about her can make me bawl! When do you get over this? or do you ever?

| Only time helped me. My parents had to have my first dog PTS that I grew up with when I was 20. He was 11 years old and had cancer. I cried alot. Then when I was out on my own I got my Siamese cat who grew up with me in my 20's & 30's for 18 years, who I had to have PTS myself. And this was 3 months after I lost both my parents. Except for my husband (who thankfully is alive & well!), I'd have lost everyone I loved within a few months of each other. I tried for months to prolong his (my siamese's) life, then decided it was the best thing for him. It was heartbreaking and I said "no more animals"! But the next day I realized the house felt too empty so I went out and got another kitty, then another, now two dogs. My family keeps growing! I dread when these youngsters I have get older and perhaps get sick, because they'll all be the same age about the same time. All I can say is... time, more time will help ease the pain, and loving other animals, but thats not replacing... they'll always live in in our memories. | I know it takes time and for some people that works but for me it hasn't. The sting of having our first Yorkie put to rest is just about as painful today as it was on 9-16-04...it was like an arrow through my heart. |

| i dont think you do. IM sorry but I dont think i will ever get over SKOSHIs death completely. He was literally my baby. I know im not helping you but im just being honest. I had a really bad night last night. His death hit me like it was the day it happened. All i see in my mind is us picking his body up from the vet and holding his little body and just telling him to open his eyes and come back alive. I think it may get a little easier but never better.

| I lost my maltese Spike in Oct of '06, and I still think of him everyday and cry my eyes out when I see another boy that looked like he did. Please know you are not alone! I like to think they are thinking of us when we think of them.

| Oh shes a sweet baby! God rest her soul! 20 years old! Wow! What a wonderful loving life you gave her! I don't know how long it takes the pain to go away. I had a pup die almost 3 years ago and if I think about him too much I cry too. It was sooo hard on me! It just takes time and keeping busy to keep your mind off of it. You'll always remember her though.

| I'm sorry for you~ you can see how close the two of you were and how much she was loved! If I lived a thousand years, I will never get over losing my two parrots, Nova and Valentino. When you've invested 20 yrs of your life in something and shared so much, it's just not something you get over. Time makes the pain slightly less acute, but I can still smell their feathers and feel their feet on my arm, feel their beak and their leather-like tongue kissing me. I can't imagine having to lose my dogs.....but I guess it's part of life. The part I don't like! Good luck ~ I like to think about the funny things mine did or the really naughty things they did. I still cry when I realize I can't hold them again though.

| Oh she was just precious! As someone stated earlier, you can just tell how much she loved you from the pictures and you her also. I love the 2nd one especially with her little eye peeking out by your flower. I am so glad you had that wonderful time together. I'm sure she knew you rescued her too. It is always hard to believe somebody could leave something so special behind. Know she is always with you in heart and soul. I really like the idea of the Rainbow Ridge....they are waiting for us before we all go together.

| So far, we only had one dog that we PTS, a Japanese Spitz. He was a grown up stray at first, very distrusting towards human because I think he was abused before but his temperament was wonderful. We literally me and my sis took a month to just earn his trust enough to follow us home. After he was home with us, we couldn't even touch him for another month or maybe a few (don't remember anymore-it was long). He stayed ever since for about 5 years until he was old. He was the best dog ever, very grateful and very obedient. I adopted a shih-tzu later on from the shelter and he got along with the little guy. I still think of him frequently and misses him dearly.

| Time makes it less painful but the memories will always be with you and we always remember the good times with had with our loved ones, let they be human or animal.
