Wow, 4 months without a seizure, Tink that's great news. Susie, I forget, what medications is she on now? I don't know whether to try anti-seizure medications on Winston or not...decisions...decisions. Has any one ever heard of the "Hunting Dog Syndrome"? That is the closest thing I can find to what is going on with him. He just goes and goes and goes until he can't go any more...and at that point he is NOT interested in food or treats of any kind. Within minutes, he is in a full blown seizure that he will not come out of on his own...only the use of NutriCal will bring him back. Obviously, he is not tracking a rabbit, but still sounds just like him. If you find a nutritionist within driving distance, please do let me know. I'm considering contacting Susan Davis, I've heard great things about her and her treatments. Hubby seems to think it's not that big of a problem and we'll just deal with the seizures as they come...but something is not right...and it scares me to think I am just ignoring a potentially fatal condition. So 2 years later, here we are still dealing with it!!!

| ![]() Kathy, Tink was on Phenobarbitol and then Potassium Bromide when her liver started having problems. Since April she has been on NOTHING! Her last Grand Mal was in August and the one before that was in June. She has petit mal seizures where she just stands still and stares into space or through you without seeing you; sometimes she trenbles. They are few and far between and the vet said she will always have them and he doesn't want to medicate her for them. After what she went through, I am fine with this non-medication treatment. Her blood sugar was always fine and the seizures are from brain damage when she had histoplasmosis that went to her brain. We have her stomach problems under control with cooked people food and some Nutro lamb and rice kibble. I just boil chicken and add vegetables, cut everything in small pieces ( I used to blend it in the blender when she was so sick), and she chomps it right down. I started adding kibble around August I think. Shortly after her last seizure. I wanted to add Wellness but she won't touch it. Her vet used a nutritionist from the UW Vet School to help me with her diet when she first came back home. I give her chicken and lamb and salmon but no beef. I've not tried raw. I've been trying to find a nitritionist close to you but it appears that it is Madison, Chicago, or Champaign. I guess Chicago would be closest. What have you found other than Susan? I read up about Hunting Dog Syndrome. I had never heard of it before. I left a message for my vet to let me know if he can recommend someone. Hugs from me and nose licks from Tink. |

| ![]() Susie, thank you so very much for all you've done...I talked to the vet again today, she really does not think it's epilepsy...but said she'd try the Phenobarbitol or Potassium Bromide if I wanted to. What kind of answer is that??? But I explained to her that I didn't see an improvement with the Valium, frequent meals...etc...and besides that he is now up to 9 pounds!!! Something has to give...I just wish I knew what to do, it's so frustrating...not knowing or understanding why this happens and how to prevent them from happening. I told her I'd think about it...again. So, the side effects with the anti-seizure medications is liver damage? I'm not sure I even want to go there...I remember all too well how very sick your Tink was. Does the University of Iowa City have a vet school...nutritionist? I know my way around there pretty well as opposed to Chicago. I want to feed him a commercial dog food, I really don't want to home cook or feed raw...will a nutritionist even talk to me knowing this? I just need guidance...point me in the right direction... Hugs and kisses to Tink, Winston misses hearing from her. Thanks again...

| ![]() Kathy, I talked with my vet today and she gave me the name of a nutritionist...I'll PM you with it. Also, she said U of I has a nutritionist but they would probably be more studied on large animals, like farm animals. So, if you check the vet school in Iowa please be sure to ask about that. Also, the canine epilepsy website says a raw diet isn't a good choice for a dog who has seizures since their system is already compromized and bacteria might be able to do more damage...home cooking is better. Can you home cook and freeze for the week? |
