You are not a flower. You are ivy. Some people make the mistake of liking ivy, not realizing that it is a parasite that destroys whatever it lives on. And you can't really get rid of ivy. You just have to beat it back regularly. "Ban it", if you will.

I ban QS for having a flashback like so many San Franciscans before her, hallucinating that ivy is somehow smothering you over the Internet.

Oh, and a tip for 2011: If your city ever removes a ban on fireworks and promises it won't be any worse than it used to be, move. Just don't move north. Head south, like Antarctica south.

I'm confused. Are you now saying that fireworks caused the Great Fire?

I do have very fond memories of block parties when I was little and people got to buy and set off their own fireworks. Sparklers were always fun. But having come back from a magnificent display of SF fireworks for New Year's, I feel good about the tradeoff of freedom to set your own fireworks versus children with no fingers. I understand in Alaska, most of you probably don't even know what opposable thumbs are, so you don't miss them when they are gone.

I ban Sherri for expecting me to believe that Canadians celebrate the new year on Jan. 1. Ridiculous! You don't celebrate Thanksgiving on the correct date! You also celebrate "Boxing Day." What the heck is that? You probably don't even have flush toilets! So begone! You're banned.
