Being an "authorized" user won't help at all, he has to add you as a "joint" user. If he puts you on it as a "joint" user, it will report on your credit as well. Just make sure he pays his bills.

Its on my credit report his card. And if he doesn't pay I am responsible for it. So is there a difference? For me to get on it I had to give them my ss number.

My other recommendation is to get a credit monitoring service like with www.truecredit.com which is done by TransUnion.
You can get a 3-in-1 report every single month for $14.95 per month. With a credit monitoring service like this that you pay for monthly through direct debit from your bank account, it does not put a "hit" on your credit at all like someone else pulling your credit.
You can keep track of your credit scores and anything that comes on your credit.
You wouldn't believe the things that go on there. Twice, I've had to have things removed that weren't mine.
Once, there was a $15,000 car loan on there, and I have never had a car loan!!
Another time, they had some insurance thing on there from a company that I've never had.
Once I got those two things removed, my credit score shot up!!

Josh called and they changed me to joint user, well we are waiting for papers to sign for me to do that. So he said that will help my credit! Thanks for telling me that.

I agree, it's always good to check your report at LEAST once a year. Identity theft can really mess up your credit.

Everyone gets one free credit report disclosure every year thanks to the Fair Credit Reporting Act. https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp
It costs extra to ask for your score though.

i ran my experian the other day, everything was fine.

So the accountant at my work reccommended running them every 4 months between the 3 credit bureaus

It's better if you pull your credit yourself through one of those monthly credit monitoring services so that you don't get a hit on your credit. You can update it every 24 hours and see if anything new has come on and if your credit score has changed. Don't let a creditor pull your credit because it will show up as an inquiry unless you're trying to get a credit card of course or something like that.

You have received lots of good advise. Cherry1000 mentioned a used car to just get you from point A to point B and pay that one off on time and early if you can and it will put you as a fairly good credit risk but only if you have a good job and have been there for a year or more. Your government job if full time could possibly do this for you in a year. Put yourself in the place of the person lending money, they want to make sure you are in a good stable job.

Good Luck but take little steps first.

Thats why I am hoping to find out if I get this job this coming up week, bc I don't want to start searching for a car until next October, so that will put me around a year at my job that has an annual salary.

Plus I need time to save up atleast half for a down payment

Is that the mazda cx-7? I know we talked about it before awhile back. Here is my 2 cents IF that is the car you want! They are about $34K (book price) FULLY LOADED, you can forgo SOME of the luxuries and get it brand new for about $26K. Now, they came out in 2007, so never buy a first year car, even used. So in 2008 that is the second year, and in 2009, you should be able to buy a used or leftover 2008 for about $20 - $22K.

I plan to put about $15K down on that exact vehicle myself, but not until 2009 and I will buy a 2008 either leftover (brand new but didn't sell in 2008 so they drop the price drastically) or a used one with low mileage!
