| Strange question I know...but I have to ask! OK, so I live in East Texas and have recently bought a house. After the first month lizards started showing up in my house. I really do not like them or any reptile! So this morning I found a garden snake in my kitchen. I know you are wondering what in the world this has to do with Yorkies...well let me tell you! I know that cats will kill/deter snakes and lizards, but will dogs do the same? I am not really a cat person but I have to do something because I live alone and I am not too fond of these creatures! Any advice would really help! Scared of creepy crawlies! |

| do you already have a Yorkie? or are you implying you are considering buying one to hunt these reptiles? Yorkies were originally bred to hunt mice, but I would never buy one for that cause now... IMHO

| My guys are major lizard hunters! Don't know what they would do with one if they actually caught it but they sure chase the heck out of them. Come to think of it I have found a tail in one of their beds one time.... yuck.

| No no no...I am not trying to get a Yorkie just for the simple purpose of hunting reptiles. I used to have one growing up and have been thinking about getting one. However, I have been really busy with work and have been rethinking the matter since I am not home alot right now and I didn't think that would work well with a new dog in the house. You see I am just having these pest problems and everyone keeps telling me to get a cat. But I don't like cats. I want a Yorkie! |

Mine chase flies or anything litle thay can. I am sure thay are great lizard hunters but I would not get a Yorkie just so they can hunt down yucky reptiles or insects and I would do my best to keep them away from them. Who knows what they can cach from ferrel animals. Quote:
I would suggest you try to get rid of any pests or reptiles before you bring a Yorkie into your home...You don't want your new baby to possibly get sick or choke or who knows what???

| What kind of lizards are they? We get little geckos around here. When she was younger, Sadie actually caught one & bit the tail off. Ick. I am SUCH a girl about that stuff & was FREAKING out. Good luck both with getting your baby and getting rid of the pests!

| There are some places I'm sure you could call and have spray your house for these certain things. I'd be scared to death.

| Well I have a myriad of lizards. Some are about 2 inches long and are tan with black spots. Then I have some that are around 6-8 inches long that are white/pink. There are so many kinds...I really don't know what kind they are and really don't care...I just want to get rid of them. |

| I contacted a pest control company when we moved in this house about the Skinks (really big lizards) and they said all they could do is put down those sticky traps where they get stuck and die so I couldn't do it. They do scare me though. One time I saw one on the back of the couch eye balling my Cockatiels. I yelled for one of the kids to come get it. They are fearless.

| I have had pet lizards, crabs, mice, hamsters, a frog and my partner use to have a snake. It is not the same as a wild reptile and the germs and diseases they might carry and transmit to your Yorkie if you allow your precious baby-to-be to hunt and eat it ... some are even poisonous! Also, salmonella and other bacterias...??? Would you take that chance with your Yorkie and allow them to eat one???

| I think maybe you should have someone come and find out how they are getting into your house. But is you don't think you like reptiles, wouldn't it be worse to have them running thru your house with a yorkie hot on their heels? Thank goodness we don't have those problems up her in the Northeast! |
