| Need help with TIVO/DVR! Anyone here an expert with their DVR? If I understand it all right, when our TIVO went kaput a few months ago, they (DirecTV) sent a new one that I believe they called a DVR instead of a TIVO. It is slightly different - the menus, search, etc. Well, I have all my regular shows (Law & Order, CSI) set up to "record the series" (only first runs) and this stupid DVR did not recognize Monday's OR Tuesdays shows as "first runs". It wasn't planning on recording them (you can see on your "list" what's scheduled to record). I checked just to make sure it was going to record and when I saw that they weren't scheduled, I manually recorded them. Does any of this make sense? I also don't know what the "prioritizer" is any good for. Why would you need that? If you try to set something to record and two other things are already scheduled, it will ask you which one you want to cancel. So why would you need the prioritizer? For kicks, I even tried moving all the L&O and CSI shows up in the "prioritizer" and that didn't even make them schedule. What am I doing wrong?? This is very frustrating because I never watch any of the shows "real time"..... I schedule everything to record so I can watch later w/out commercials. This is really boggling my mind..... I thought I had this stupid piece of machinery conquered and now it's outwitted me!

| Dang, I had no problem at all with the original Tivo but this new one they sent has different stuff involved and it's not working like I think it should. I'm gonna have to break down and call the customer service people probably. That's just the last thing I wanted to do though so if anyone has any advice.......... Thanks!!

| Not sure if that's the same one that comes with DirecTV...... does yours have a "prioritizer" section? Maybe that would tell me if it's the same.

| No it's definitely not the same. I haven't used Direct TV. It costs more because it has sports packages and we are Sci Fi fans not sports fans so we like Dish.

| I shall try to help you ... No Einstein here though! Quote:
I always try to hit FIRST RUN ONLY but sometimes then it does not schedule it to tape so I hit FIRST RUN & REPEATS ... I just figure, I'll deal with it later! BTW, I have a "prioritizer" thingy also ... Try that ... if that does not set it up, let me know and I shall try to brainstorm with you. Make sure you do not have more than 2 things set up to tape for the same time period. I "time shift" also b/c of the commercials .... We are slaves to our machines, not the other way around ...

| Do you have those shows set to record on the right channel? At least for me here Law and order is on three different networks, and the same goes for CSI. I am assuming the "prioritizer" is the equivalent to the Season Pass manager on Tivo. If so you should put your most favorite show in the top spot to make sure some show you kinda like gets recorded instead of CSI. |
