I would be soooo happy with that! He would too, he is just stubborn. LOL Besides my birthday is 2 days after Christmas and I don't need anything for that. Besides last year family gave is over $500 for Christmas in just money so we would pocket a lot of our vacation back right after Christmas.

It typically closes a few of the days between Christmas and New Years. Not before. We check out before Christmas day.

Thats good to know. We are going for 15 days this year in the end of September so I doubt we go at Christmas this year but maybe next year

Why not use the Christmas gift money to pay for the vacation? I heard this idea on the radio last year.. thought it was a great idea.

God knows the last thing most people, including kids, need is more STUFF.

To make it even more special, you could go the week before Christmas.. a great week that normally isn't very busy. I went then last year and it was amazing. So amazing, that we are going again this year at that time.

Then on Christmas day - offer to do dinner for the family, make it a big special day but tell them there will be no gift exchange this year. People enjoy that! Getting a nice meal, a nice day away and someone else to do the dishes! Maybe get some special red & green tupperware containers for cheap and send leftover plates home with everyone! So they dont need to cook the next day either

Also homemade gifts are nice. I make frosted pecan bites every year, tons of them (maybe $30 for all ingredients) and put them in disposable tupperware containers (ya know those CHEAP ones) with some red or green plastic wrap in it and some red & green ribbon tied around it. People love them, they are yummy and they have the tupperware afterwards!

what about not telling hubby you are saving and then just start socking away bits of cash here & there... take the change from his pants pockets at night... tell him each week you need $$ for this or that and then put it in a drawer or something secretly. If you food shop start buying things that go further for less $$ (hamburgers vs steak, etc..) and make sure you eat all your leftovers so you dont waste food... buy generic brand if possible, then taking what you normally spend on groceries on what your new modified list costs and socking that away as well. I find that if I cut back on my own in places and put the savings in a drawer or piggy bank, it ads up quickly!

How old is your son? Im assuming less than one if this is his first xmas? he won't know or remember and I know you want to make it special but I think when hes 2 would be a better time for Disney with him. He'll be more aware around him and more interactive with things. If you plan for Oct 2008 to go to disney you'll have plenty of time to sock away $$ w/o hubby knowing and then you can surprise him by telling him one day that you booked and paid for the whole trip CASH and he didnt even feel the pain of a budget!!!

I like that idea as well!!! I'm pretty crafty at times and I could make them all sorts of little homemade gifts. Last year for Father's Day we didn't have much to spend so I baked both of our dad's a cake. My dad was thrilled because he loves sweets and such but hubby's dad didn't act very thrilled. They didn't try it in front of me, never said thank you, and he proceeded to tell me how "great" of a cook he is. So I wont do that again. Yeah he was that "great" cook that fixed meatballs last Christmas and gave everyone the poops. LOL

Your son isn't going to remmeber Disney World now, He will enjoy it when he gets a lot older. So that seems like a good idea to save money and pay for it all in cash, and give it a few more years.

Yeah we would most def. pay for it in cash. I wouldn't put it on our credit card now or then. We have always paid for vacations in cash. I know he won't remember it now and I don't remember going to Disney much as a child, I have a few memories of it. But I love watching videos and looking at pictures and it looked like I had a blast!

Christmas is the best time to go, by far. I went the week of Christmas (we were there Christmas Eve & Day) in 2002. It was AMAZING.

I've also been in April, May, July, Aug, Oct, & Nov. The summer months are the worst times to go IMO. April & May were okay too, but Nov & Dec were by far the best. Summer months were just awful. Too hot, WAY too many people.

I guess I can compromise with him. He, of course, jumped in and said no. For the exact reasons stated before. He said if I just wait till end of March then we can go. I'm still excited, just worried about the crowds. This doesn't help me wanting a get away soon. I just want to get away for a few days. I even said if it was with my mom or Tilly and JJ I don't care! He likes me up his butt a lot so I don't see that happening either. It's like he doesn't wanna go anywhere so I can't either.
