| My house is a disaster Ugh! Ok, so I decided I was going to do this whole feng shui thing. It said that step one was clearing the clutter. So I pulled everything out and started throwing things away. I am STILL not done! I should have stuck to my flylady routines and done a little section at a time, but oh no. I had to get it all done ASAP. The house looks like a tornado hit it. One of the furbabies went poop someplace and I can't find it, but sure can smell it! I didn't even want to get out of bed this morning because I didn't want to face this mess. I don't even know where half this stuff came from!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh I hear you. I hate the clutter we humans stuff away in places we then forget about. It makes me *feel* cluttered. My husband and I are trying to figure out a wkend where we can do what you're doing - go thru everything and CLEAR it out! You're going to feel great when it's done!

| That's exactly why I'm doing it - having it around makes me feel cluttered! When I was in HS a teacher always wanted our desks neat and tidy because she said your environment is a reflection of how you feel inside. Messy desk - messy mind, making it difficult to concentrate. She was right. When my house is clean and organized my head feels clearer and lighter. It isn't just me either. Its like everyone's mood greatly improves.

I agree with your teacher, but be careful about the Feng Shui thing; I went whole hog with it (to the extent of doing it for my bird's room which was a detached casita at our home. When I had to go to Hawaii to be with my dad when he had heart surgery, I'd put my cats in the double bathroom and closed the door between them and the birds in the main room so that the petsitter didnt' have to access the main house to take care of everyone. We had a double vanity with 2 sinks that I had the stoppers closed on, Feng Shui style, to prevent the energy from going down the drain; unfortunately, the faucets turned on toward you and one of my cats was up there rubbing against the handle and turned the water on . My petsitter came over to a totally flooded casita and had to call me in the middle of my dad's surgery to let me know ...my dh had left that morning for work which was a few hundred miles away, and was LIVID over the situation, since he didn't like either the birds or the cats . I didn't even consider telling him WHY the stoppers were closed, LOL....it totally ruined the custom cabinets under the sinks and all the sheetrock in the lower part of the bathroom and main room. Animals were fine of course; the cats stayed up on the counter, although their food was "down there" and the birds cages large enough that they were fine too....but I have decided that I'll just try to keep clutter to a minimum and not worry about any life-energy being lost down the drains . Who woulda thought . And why when we try to clean things up and get organized, does it seem like we make a much larger mess which makes the task seem even more daunting

| you should really invite a friend over to help you. i work with this girl and she helped her boyfriend clean out his place. according to her it went like this: "what is this? why do you need it? it has to go!" then she tossed it. since your friend is not emotionally connected to the items, it will be easier for you to say, "you know, i really don't need that entire newspaper from 1982. only the article about my brother winning a wrestling medal." (i have one of those, but not from 1982. i think it was like 1987) i think also that you should start where you think the poo might be...and warn your friend that the dogs are stressed because the chi is off have you seen clean sweep on TLC? i always get inspired by watching that show. inspired yes...action...weeeelllll... |

| I LOVE that show! There are a couple of them like it. Oh dear wait until I start explaining to DH about life energy going down the drain in the bathroom sink....he already thinks I'm "mildly eccentric" as he so lovingly puts it. I got quite a bit done today. Found the poop. House smells better now. Discovered I have some weird obsession with books - not just any books though (although I LOVE books period) my obsession lies with textbooks. I bet I found 20 of them. Everything from Chemistry to algebra to Anatomy and Physiology.

but right now, the books are mostly clutter. i very rarely read anything twice. if you can figure out what to do with the textbooks decoratively that would be cool. i'd like to start collecting globes (i told my husband he's given me the world) and how awesome would some old books look as platforms. yep, nerdy girl inside! in Houston there are Half-Price book stores, but you won't get diddly for a textbook. also, are you keeping them because you love them or are you keeping them b/c you don't know what else to do with them? i'm glad you found the poo!! | |
