I'm going right after work to the store and get some stuff for him and his buddies -- I think my husband has some dvd's we can send, too. I'm praying we get them all out of there asap!

I'm sorry for you and your brother. We really need to support our troops over there, so they know they have something to fight for.

I feel your pain. My baby brother is going to be 22 yrs. old in Sept. He is a Marine. He had training and school this past year and in the Spring he got his orders to go to Japan for 2 years. We were so happy

Oh! Im so sorry to hear that! I remember EVERY time my brother got deployed they would not tell him where he was going for months so we'd HOPE and PRAY that he was not going to Iraq or Afgan. We thought at this point when he came home from south korea that he was home free he was told he would not deployed for another year at minimum. No such luck! And THIS deployment to Iraq, he got 6 months in Iraq, 6 months home and 6 months back in Iraq. But hes been there for 8 months now and they have not been told if or when they are leaving. It just stinks!

On a happier note, I know hes going to be blown away and touched by all your love and support for him and his troops! I thank each of you EVERY SINGLE DAY from the bottom of my heart!!

On a sad note, He was cut by a razor yesterday, one that detainees use to shave. They said he has to have a blood test every week for a year to make sure he did not contract Hepititis, aids, TB or any other foreign diseases or blood or liver disorders that can develop. So our fingers are crossed now! Im sure it will be ok. (I am the upbeat one in my family!)

On a gross note, my dexter (yorkie) just brought me and proceeded to eat the biggest spider Ive ever seen! I am sooooo grossed out!!! Of course he wants to lick my face now!! EEWWW

I hope your brother comes home soon and safe! I read in the Navy times that the 25% of the Army has NEVER been deployed, they just keep redeploying the same people. I was in the Navy and if you weren't deployable, they made it difficult to reenlist. The Army needs to switch some people out and give others a break! My sister just got back from Kuwait and she's fighting not to go to Iraq because she's supposed to be getting out in January.

Just a quick reminder that when shipping via post office if u ship parcel post it can take up to a month to get to Matt so pay the extra for priority so he can get it in less than 2 weeks. Also, if u do ship priority they have flat rate boxes u can use so u can stuff them full and pay a flat rate.
I used to send to my son when he was in Iraq and learned the hard way.

I don't know how, but I somehow missed this thread until now. I will start putting a package together tomorrow. Can you tell us about books or reading material he might like? Magazines about sports, computers, fishing?

I emailed my brother over a week ago and asked him to tell me what he would like for magazines, books, etc... and to see if he had any friends who don't get a lot of packages/mail. I have not heard back from him at all. Im starting to worry a bit. Usually i hear back from him within 3 days on email.

anyways, My brother has been gone from home since he was 18. I don't know everything he likes anymore sadly. I can tell you he likes country music (if you want to make a mixed cd of different artists from cds you have at home) and fitness & nutrion magazines and books. Also movies, (dvds), he watches so many movies and owns so many. Im sure he'd also like letters and pictures of you and your family and your fur-babies! (he think im obsessed with my dogs... you can let him know im a 'normal' yorkie owner haha

)

Since I have not heard from him I don't think he has received any packages yet! I was trying to wait and update everyone with a response from him but at this point I wanted to let you all know that I did not forget your kindness and generosity and when I hear back from him I will post!

My bankers box of goodies only got out this morning (Priority) from the Post Office. MY friend at the gym wanted to add a couple exercise cord thingies and a net bag, so I waited. It was neat that the box weighed a lot, but Priority Mail to the APO was only $14, which was only $1 more than slower Parcel post. An earlier poster was helpful to point out that or I wouldn't have thought of it.

Hey Christine, I just got a letter from your brother today....He got a package from me. He sent me a thank you letter and told me about himself. I have sent two more since so he will have more stuff coming. Just thought I would let you know what a nice guy he is.....but I guess you already know that
