Tattoos? Can I see yours? And more questions!!!! So I'm thinking about getting one but am a little nervous!!! Does it really hurt?????!!?!?!?!?!? I've been watching Miami Ink to get my nerve up :) Plus I don't know what I want to get!!! At first I was thinking some flowers on my arm, but then the more I though about it I want it to be something more about "me". And my only "true" love is my dogs and what I do. What could I get to represent that???? I think I want it on my arm. Can you guys help me come up with a design?????? Can I see yours????? And please tell me......will it hurt that bad???? I have a piercing but they say its different? I appreciate any help!!!! THANKS!!!!! |
i want to get 4 paw prints one for each dog i have to get the guts and the money |
I have six now and counting. It does hurt but I have a pretty high pain threshold. I am sure as a kid you have falled...well remember having grazed your knee that is sort of what it feels like. While they are running the needle over the area it's a burning scraping feel. Usually after about ten or so minutes of work you get used to the feel. I would suggest thinking long and hard about what you want being as it's forever. I also suggest you go to a reputable place, ask to see the artist's portfolio (most keep on so you can see their work), ask about how they steralize their needles, etc. Don't go in an rush to get it done. Check out the place and then make an appt. to come back when you are ready. A lot of time you get something you will regret later on. I don't have any pictures with me of what I have since I am at work. P.S. a good starter place is an ankle. It's one of the least painful places. The chest, lower back, shoulders tend to hurt a lot more. |
Thanks for all your info! We did go and look at their portfolio already and they are a reputable place which is good!!!! I'm thinking of getting it on my arm where there is some meat :) Will that hurt less? |
The arm is a decent spot. I have my upper right thigh, left ankle, whole lower back, upper right shoulder and also my left side of my chest done...ooh and my left wrist as well. Oooh ask how long he has been tatting. |
4 Attachment(s) i have 4. i'm a bit addicted. :) it hurts, but once it's over, it's over :) |
It gets very addicitive. I am planning on doing half sleeves sooner or later :D |
As I said my lower back hurt really bad. My ankle didnt. I am going to go and get Daisy & Jersey's paw prints when I can figure out where I want to put it. As Bizzymammabee stated defintley search around, dont rush into it just because you want to. My cousin and 3 of his friends all went to the same place and got a Staph Infection, they went there because they heard they were good. You have to go for yourself and see and ask alot of questions. When I got the one in memory of my grandmother on my ankle, I went in with something that I was looking to do BUT the arist sat and talked with me and wrote down all kinds of ideas and then when I went back to see the sketch I was blown away ~ I couldnt wait to get it done I was so excited. My mom got her first tattoo (we went the same day to the same girl) and she got an ankle bracelet with me and my sister, nieces birthstones and then like a hanger which is my mom & dad and if you ask her...she'll never do it again. They say once you get one, you're hooked. So be prepared :) If I were you I would get something to do with your dogs, because that's what you love. I like the flowers too. Its a hard decision. Good Luck! |

the one on my back was ok, but out toward the hips was somewhat more painful. my neck is sensitive, so that one hurt. the wrist is a small, tan colored, kanji lettering for "Raven." a japanese friend of mine says it actually says, "Ra-wyen" but that's as close of a translation as he thinks i could have gotten. no one even knows it's there or is a tattoo. it resembles a small scar. it was my husband's idea to do a color that was more of a skin tone. i'm glad he suggested that. i also put it on my left wrist since i'm right handed and tend to wear my watches and bracelets on that side. i have heard for armbands (especially if you are ticklish) that it can be fairly painful. and anywhere there is mostly bone such as the top of your foot (very sexy) or ribcage is difficult. in my professional writing class i did a whole paper on tatts and did a survey and everything. also, research "freedom2ink" which is a new type of ink that is more easily removeable if you ever do change your mind. try to pick something not super detailed because the ink does spread. my concern was to place it somewhere i thought i could hide it. the one on my neck is not so easily hidden as i thought when i got it. i normally prefer my hair up...but luckily i work at a pretty cool place where it doesn't matter if it shows. i was thinking about getting one on my arm and a friend of mine got some special tattoo paper from office depot (or something) and downloaded a pic of the tatt i wanted and gave the temps to me as a funny gift. i put one on my arm...that was ok, but now i realize it's a bold place. i put one smaller on my foot and i loved that. my husband has a foot tattoo and i think it's GreAt! maybe i should have put one on my ribs as i think that is the next large, logical place for the tattoo i'm thinking of. (i have one tattoo in mind, a medusa by boris vallejo that i've wanted for at least 6 years. i just want to find the perfect artist and perfect place). don't drink and don't take asprin before as they make you bleed more. (maybe alleve or ibuprof...) and remember: once you have that first one, it's so much easier to want another!! |
1 Attachment(s) Mine did not hurt, its on my lower back. I have heard certain place are more sensitive though. |

I know the arm may seem like a bold place but I thinking of it this way...if I go thru it and get it....then I wanna show it off!!!! :p I'm past the short shirts (even though I have a peircing) so I want to make sure it shows. Plus all honestly :D I think it'll hurt less on my arm. I'm a big baby! Can anyone help me come up with a design related to my dogs? |
I have two currently...my first one is on my lower back, it is three paw prints with three small red hearts round them, one for each of my furbabies. My second one is one my ankle, it is an anklet of yellow daisies...it was the more painful because of all the detail in it. I defintely want at least one more but haven't decided what I want yet or where I want it...but they are very addictive. They do hurt but the outlining is the hard part, the color is much less painful...but once it is done it is done and you have something wonderful. |

[QUOTE=Breny;1259511] And please tell me......will it hurt that bad???? I have a piercing but they say its different? QUOTE] For me I've found that when you get a piercing, it doesn't hurt so bad to get it done but it continues to be sore later on while it's healing. Tattoos hurt while you get them done, but when it's done it doesn't hurt at all. Mine was fine right after, then it kind of felt like a sunburn for an hour or two, and then it just itched while it healed! My tattoo is on my lower back (at work, can't post picture) and as soon as I got it done I called my mom and told her if I ever say I'm getting another, talk me out of it! I'm kind of a big baby too, and the closest I can describe it is it felt like a razorblade cutting through my skin! I'm so glad I got it though, and it IS addictive. I'm getting another after summer :D |
Breny...I will get someone to take a picture of them tonight and post them for you. It is defintely my favorite tattoo b/c it always makes me think of my furbabies. |
I have 2 right now. I have a heart surrounded by tribal on my lower back & that one did not hurt at all. I also have a butterfly on my shoulder that hurt a bit when they actually got on the shoulder blade. But the pain is really minimal. It's more annoying then excrutiating. and a good tattoo artist will give you breaks as much as you need it. My piercing actually really hurt a lot. I find if you can take a friend in that helps keep your mind off of it. I've heard when you get to the underside of the arm it's really painful. So I wouldn't recommend an armband. My friend has a moon at the very top of her arm & she that wasn't bad & it's really cute & can be covered by short sleeves if necessary. I want to get 2 more. I want to get a paw print in royal blue outlined in orange (the colors of my logan's collar) on the outside of my hip/way upper thigh. I'm actually getting really excited about because I think it will be neat. And a flower on my big toe. I just have to get a friend & find the place. |
Well honey, this almost 60 year old grandma just got her first tatoo. I got it on the inside of my left wrist. I got 4GVN. It did hurt but not unbearable. My son has one on each ankle and from his elbows to shoulders all the way around. He said the ones on the underside of his arms hurt but his are very detailed and completely colored in. My daughter has a dolphin on her ankle and my husband has a daisy (my favorite flower) on his butt:D Good luck |
I have one on my back and the pain was SO intense.. it took 3 hours and I didn't think it was ever going to end. Towards the end I kept asking if he was almost done. Whenever he would do it over my spine it hurt the worst. In the end, I love it and I would love to get another. |
Thanks everyone for sharing your stories!!!! I'm thinking of getting a head shot of one of my babies. What do you think of that? |

Come on all you creative people! I need your ideas!!!!!!! PLEEEZE!!!!! :p |
tat I will take a pic of my friend's Yorkie tat and post it..it is on her lower leg. She had a small one and people were always bending over and asking what it was...the new one is a Yorkie face the size of the palm of your hand and it is beautiful... My older daughter has a flamingo on her ankle her sister designed..and the sister has Sylvester, Animaniac's and Jack on her various body part.s |
LOL !! you have to remember I did mine WAY back when I was 16 and 18 I have an American Eagle low - and higher - The Seagull from the Book Jonathon Livingston Seagull - I guess I had this freedom thing going on in my youth LOL IF you do alot of colors make sure they do a good job - the lighter colors tend to fade - I had to retouch my Eagle - the best are the Reds - they seem to last the longest oh - and don't put it in a place that could stretch if you gain weight LOL - I made that mistake with the one on my hip - I got pregnant - it went from a beautiful eagle to a sitting duck all in one year |
Oh wow!!! That would be awesome !!!! Thanks!!!! I was trying to look up Yorkie Tattoos online and there aren't to many that came up. Quote:
