I thought of that too, but I sit in air all day and I tend to wear longer sleeves, so I think I can hide it if I want to :)

I'm still working on not chickening out though!!!

You're never too old to do anything! I'm the baby of the family and I got my first tattoo two weeks before my older brother got his... and then my dad who was 50 at the time jumped on the bandwagon and got his first one too! Now I'm trying to convince my mom (mid-50's) but she's too scared!

Just in talking with people (not on YT)...why are they trying to detour me from my arm? I feel if I do it, its a part of me and I want to show it, not hide it.

cause alot of people get there arms done and then regret later what they got, or that they cant hide it very well. but i think if u put alot of thought into it and get something you REALLY want instead of a spur of the moment guess you should be just fine. just make sure its what you really want... dont let anyone talk you into anything.
my friend got a tattoo that someone else told her would be kool and now she HATES it... its in a different language she doesnt even speak and half the time she cant remember what it says. but good thing its on her lower back.. she can hide it if she really wants to.

Don't listen to others, just do what you want to do! Make sure it's something you are never going to regret, or will want to show it forever. Personally I like mine to be hidden because I work in a professional field, and I also wouldn't like to get big noticeable ones before wearing a wedding dress, etc. But I would never ever try to discourage someone from getting one where they want to get it! Go for it!

s13silviagirl 07-26-2007 08:39 AM

Yep, make sure it is what you truely want. And remember, they change over time. The older you (& the tat) get, the more it fades out/becomes distorted.

Also, make sure they are clean! Check with others and see what they think of the shop. When you go in, watch them pull out a new needle. If they don't use a different needle for different ppl. Leave!

i have all of mine in places where they can be shown off if i want to, and hidden when they need to be (foot, lower back, between shoulder blades, hip) and i am so glad I did that. I have found myself in situations where i was going to a very nice dinner and wanted to dress up. some of my dresses and shirts showed my tattoo between my shoulder blades, and I was scrambling to find a dress up shirt that hid the tattoo. I just didn't want it flashing out because it was a very fancy restaurant and I was going to be with my investors, who actually despise tattoo's. so I thought it was a time that it should be covered. IMO if you get it on your arm, it will more than likely cause you some of the same grief...at a time when you least expect it. but...then again...if it is not a BIG tattoo, you should be able to cover it easily. depending on the size of the tat...it may be hard to find short sleeved shirts that cover it completely. i know a lot of the styles these days are "capped sleeves" and such.

I am a big believer in "if it means a lot to you...who cares what others think". I got the tat WHERE I wanted and WHAT I wanted...but out of respect for others,..and to keep my tat from being topic of conversation (in a negative way) i chose to cover it at that time. but i didn't let anyone tell me NOT to get it where I wanted. So go with your heart... but def. be sure you know what you are getting into.

I have heard that on the upper arm is one of the least painful places to get it :) out of the 4 I have..my hip was the least painful for me. foot was the most painful.

Breny 07-26-2007 12:41 PM

The place I'm going to go to my brother got his last one from, and we actually went there once to check them out.

What should I look for besides new needles?

Its actually one of the better places here in my area.

Thanks for everyones support!!!!

My true love in life is my dogs :aimeeyork Thats the only thing :) so I figure I can't go wrong with a Yorkie Tatt, ya know.

I watch Miami Ink all the time & now I want one, too! But I'd get it on my lower back...I really don't want one that is visible all the time. But I dont' know what I want, so I haven't done it yet. I kind of thought about doing something dog related, but I jsut don't know. I don't want to regret anything I get.

OH, it's great! Those guys are really talented. It made me want one & that's something I NEVER thought I'd do!!!

PuppyLovinNurse 07-26-2007 02:29 PM

I have one on my foot...I don't have a picture, but I designed it myself. It's a heart with two stars (heart for my fiance, 2 stars for my "kids" that I nannied for 5 years - like my own kids), then the heart is kind of "wearing" a crown for me because my name (Sara) means princess, I've always been known as the princess. It was before we got Chloe so there's nothing in there about her :(

I didn't even hardly feel it. Didn't hurt at all. The only part that kind of tingled was RIGHT above the toes.

I want SO many more, but because of my career I have a very limited selection when it comes to areas for my tattoos.

I REALLY want one on my left wrist of Chloe's pawprint, but I can't get it on my wrist or I'll always have to wear long sleeves with my scrubs and I don't want to have to be stuck like that. Ugh!

I have two tattoos. My first one is a floral pattern on my side. It's pretty big and I hope to have it eventually covered up or added to customize it since the design was picked off a website. I do love the colors though.

My second one means a lot to me. It is a dove and it represents a new stage in my life in which I felt free and at peace. I plan on getting on getting more including Stanley's pawprint =).

As for the pain, it really depends on your pain threshold. Women have a higher pain threshold than men so we actually handle it better than they do. To me, the feeling of getting a tattoo is so addicting and I enjoy it. Some people use a topical numbing spray when they get their tattoos, but I think the whole point is to endure the pain and love the results. It is very different from getting a piercing. It will hurt at first but eventually you will feel numb to it.

I have a butterfly on my lower back. I wanted one for a while but my ex always told me I'm not the tatoo type and discouraged it. I finally got it during our divorce. didn't hurt too bad, of course I was under the influence.... I had gone in and looked around the guy told me to have a beer and come back. I don't think he expected me to come back. Well 2 rx ibuprofens and a few beers later..... :) About the time it started to hurt he would stop to wipe it off. I kinda took it like child birth, I focused on other things and then like I said when he started to hurt he stopped and wiped so it was all good. He also talked to me the whole time which is distracting and helped.

I want to expand on it, like vines or something and then add flowers or ??? to represent my kids.

I'd also like to get a paw print or something on m foot near my ankle maybe?

Sorry the pic isn't very good. My kid wasn't really into doing this for me.

MeganS 07-26-2007 09:12 PM

I just want to say that I think all the tattoos you guys have posted are amazing! :) I'd never get one (too much of a chicken), but if I did I would get a little Shamrock on either my wrist or ankle (because I'm Irish) or a little yellow rose (in memory of my grandma).

Good luck with your decision! :D

I was thinking about getting the same thing! I wasn't sure how to get a copy of her paw print though.. I was thinking maybe like an ink pad or something.

I have a yorkie tattooed on my right breast. High enough up so that with a lower cut shirt it is visable. I get lots of complements on it. I plan to add a bone at the dogs feet with a red bow tied around it and the streamers going down my breast with my dogs names inside the ribbon. I tried to upload it but couldnt get it to work. Anyway I love it. And no it doesnt hurt it is kind of like getting scratched but they say the breast is one of the least painful spots.:aimeeyork

I have 3 - butterfly on shoulder, my husbands name on my wrist (which I can cover with bracelet or watch if needed). We both got each others name the first week we were married. Just thought it would be cool. Thank God we're still married 24 yrs now or would've had to cover it LOL and I have a design on my ankle.

I'm planning on getting more butterflies total of 3 representing my 3 daughters who I love very much. I'm thinking a butterfly trail would look cool. :D

yorkiegirl83 07-27-2007 01:18 AM

I'm way too chicken to get a tattoo, plus I am so undecisive that I know whatever I got, I would hate at some point.

But I love looking at others tattoos!

I just got my first one about a month and a half ago. I went in to get a scorpion. I got it on my upper thigh... I LOVE IT! I knew what I wanted... but remember its there for life... so make sure you don't get something you are not in love with! although I love my scorpion, I want another tat that is more original. I have an awesome black & white Yorkie drawing that I might do.

My tat did not hurt at all... I was nervous to get one and put it off for a LONG time. I finally did it at 30 and was disappointed that it was NOTHING compared to what I anticipated! glad though too (noone WANTS to sit through something that HURTS, but they'll do it if they have to) haha

Here is my tat and here is a pic of the one Im thinking about getting. I know showing you this you could get it if you like it.. thats ok.. it just a pic I found and thought would make a pretty cute tattoo. My artist said he could do a replication of my exact dogs... but I thought about that and do not want my dogs on me, cuz like I said, its for life, and when they pass (many many moons from now) I dont want their likeness on my body! I know I wouldnt want that. But I LOVE Yorkies and know I'll have them throughout my lifetime so I wanted a 'generic' yorkie pic!

My friend got a tattoo in the middle of her back and said it didnt really hurt all that much either...

Enjoy!!!

I think Kalina82 posted that she did that with her furbaby. Not positive it was her, but someone did LOL

I think it was in Shana's post about her retouched butterfly. Check there.

Whoever it was, said they used ink. I tried stamping Chloe's paw on paper for scrapbooking, though & she freaked. Maybe take a clear, close-up picture? Then they can copy it from there? lol I don't know!

hm. i have to take a pic of my wrist tat for you. i don't have my camera with me. i'll do it tonight, i promise! it makes a difference if you get a skin toned ink color.

I thought about doing it in white, so it shows, but if you're just getting a quick glance (say at work) you won't see it.

I think Lindsay Lohan has a white-ink tattoo on her wrist.

I'm very pale, thought so I don't know how that would work.

TOO many options! LOL

I'd LOVE to see a pic of yours, though! Pretty please :D

Breny 07-27-2007 12:09 PM

 Thanks so much everyone for all your input!

Well I took pictures in of my little Brodie Rae and I'm having them draw up something for me :)

I'm excited to see what he comes up with.
