.I do crochet and I make blankets all the time for Max. I don't crochet tightly; it doesn' t matter how tight or loose it is...you should count your stitches, but I rarely do. The rings are for marking a pattern usually when you're doing more involved stitches that change at a certain point. I usually just do a single or double crochet, so I don't use them for the blankets I make. One thing you can do if you tend to keep increasing or decreasing the number of stitches (making the blanket not square, or even) is to do a border along the edges...I usually do a contrasting color along the edges and do several rows...it usually makes it look more finished anyhow and you can't really tell that it wasn't square to begin with. I'm far from any crochet expert though....but it works for us! Oops...you do know that for each row you're supposed to add a stitch (to make the next row) and then skip the first stitch when you turn it to go the other way?

The blanket you are making is it a granny square blanket or a simple back and forth stitch. If you are newbie and wanting to make a blanket honestly the granny stitch blanket works nice and you dont' loose or find extra stitches. I love this type of blanket and the plus is that it stays nice and even compared to the simple back and forth stitch.

| Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Ok I use a site called knittinghelp.com (learning to knit) so I did a bit of a search for you. This site looks promising for tips and techniques: http://www.learntoknit.com/instructions_cr.php3

| Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Indeed. I was then thinking that a "crotchtologist" could be a synonym for a gynecologist. When I saw this thread title - I thought "am I out of the loop on a new term here? Have "crotchers" been on Dateline yet?". Had to come look.
