Any crotchers out there
 
I'm trying to make a blanket, and I keep gaining and losing stiches. How do I remedy that, and what are those little circle things they show in books to use when crotching?

I crochet but don't do anything with the ring! lol Can you show me a quick sample of the pattern you're working on and maybe I can tell how you're adding or dropping stitches?

I crochet, just not very well, LOL.

I often gain/lose stitches in the ends where I don't know if there is supposed to be a stitch there or not. I find I have to count the whole row out sometimes.

LMAO! that's what I was thinking when I posted - I need to get my mind out of the gutter but man today - it's just not working

hmm.....wonder why? :D

why don't you fly out here to New Jersey and we'll go up to the Connecticut coast and learn how to crochet! :D

I was wondering what it meant also ...

I would think there MUST be another way to spell that (a person who crochets ... surely not crotch-er) ...

Wow, what a little talk about crotches won't do. I mean crocheting.

If you are just learning, you may find it helpful to count the second row of stiches to make sure you have the same number as the first row and then put a safty pin in the last stitch. Then put a pin in the beginning stitch of the third row and crochet into the stitch with the safety pin in the end of that row. Now, when you get to the end of the fourth row you'll know where the end is because the safety pin is in the last stitch. It will look like this.

xxxxxxxxxxx row 1
turn
xxxxxxxxxxp row 2
turn
pxxxxxxxxxx row 3
turn
xxxxxxxxxxx row 4

Then each row, you can move the safety pins until you become comfortable that you are catching all the stitches.

Doesn't matter if its a single, half or double stitch; the concept is the same. :) That's how my mother taught me many years ago. AND I'm self-handed and she was right-handed, so I sat across from her and did what she did - exactly backwards! When it was time to teach my daughter, I did it the same way and she learned easily. :D
