NEED IDEAS Please - DOG Left outside all alone Sorry this is long - I'm SO mad at my neighbors - I posted about my neighbors dog a long time ago that I had to call the Houston Animal Cops on -The post is so old it's gone cause I couldn't find it but trust me - these people should NOT HAVE A PET OF ANY KIND..... Photos & the story is on Millbusters here but BEWARE - its VERY Graphic.:( :( http://www.millbusters.com/forums/showthread.php?t=497 Back in 2005 they had let their poor dog get in such bad shape his skin was RAW over 1/3 of his body - what I had thought was rust colors on him was BLOOD.....:( The day I saw him (after Chanel alerted me to him huddled in the corner of his yard) :( I had to climb my fence to actually see him and shot pictures from every angle to show how truly hurting he was & called the ASPCA immediately ...the photos got them out QUICK & they surrendered the dog. NOW - 2 years later -- the same people have a very small beautiful white Poodle outside in the HOT HOUSTON sun and have left him/her out there all day. I need ideas because if this poor dog is going to be left outside like this ...I need to do something...she's just out there crying and crying and it's breaking my heart. I'm so hoping this little dog is only visiting but what if they got another and are going to leave him or her out all summer ??? I know the laws but I also know I can't knowingly let a small dog suffer outside like that - it's already up to 100 degrees here in Houston and this just isn't right ...MAN I'm mad - I can't believe they'd even take on another dog after seeing what they did to their beautiful lab. Ideas ?? So far they aren't breaking the law and the dog looks well cared for. |
Do they have food and water and a little house for him/her to get away from the sun? Doesnt a dog have to have proper shelter to be able to get away from the elements. I would still call....perhaps with the last report that was filed and the dog they surrendered The Animal Cops will watch them more closely. Maybe keep a diary for a week of the conditions of the puppy and how often it gets food and water, or human companionship even.....if it gets to go inside at bedtime...things like that and then call when you have a small case against them. Or Or...you could grab them and tie them up to trees outside in 100 degree weather in fur coats with a bowl of water that gets dirty quickly and take the dog into your air conditioned home and come out occasionally pat them on the head and go back in...after a few days they should get the hint ya think? |
OMG V, those pictures were just awful!! Girl you don't even have to ask ... you know EXACTLY what I'd do. I'll PM you. |
I am so sorry V...I know how you feel I went through this not to long ago with neighbors, its hard not to do nothing, but if they have it water & food, I don't know what you can do...its sad, so sad.... |
OMG I posted before I seen the pics, what do you want me to do...That is awful...that poor dog, let me know V... |
I would watch them like a hawk!!! One slip up and I would immediately report them, don't allow them to neglect another pet again. It was horrifying what they did to their first pet. |
Those pictures of that poor dog they used to have is awful that is extreme neglect. I dont know if there is anything you can do for the new dog if they leave it food and water |
If the dog is left outside, it must be properly contained and be given adequate shelter, food, and water. If there is no shelter for the dog or water left out, give AC a call. I doubt they'd take the dog right then but they would talk to the owner about having proper shelter out there. Poor poodle |
:( :( :( :( :( I know....I'm horrified and they haven't even done anything bad yet. But - to me leaving a little dog outside in this heat is just cruel. I had heard a new 'little bark' the other night and thought - oh shoot someone has a small dog and he wants in the house...but today -that poor baby has been out there almost all the time now......I hear the little barks. That's just LAZY and wrong ....I'm going to take photos but from what I see the dog looks nice and clean - just miserable and very very lonely. It's SO hot in the sun and their back door has no shelter at all. I think I'm going to go personally and talk to them for starters. They know someone called on them in 2005 and maybe they'll do the right thing and let this poor dog inside where he/she belongs |
I do like the idea of tying THEM to a tree though....hmmmmm....wonder how big the guy is ? |
That poor baby, I hope there is some water there. You go girl!!! You cannot treat God's creatures this way and get away with it again!!!! |
I don't know how it is in Texas, but typically, if an animal has been taken from someone, they can't own another for a specified amount of time. Do you know if they had a time requirement like this placed on them? You can go back and look, those kind of records are public. You could just start there.... I feel very sad for that dog. I lived in Houston for a few years and the heat is MISERABLE!!!!!!!! If they were so intenet on getting an outdoor dog, why in the world did they get one that has pink skin and WILL burn in the sun?!!! Ugh! :( Tammy |
v , i think you should go talk to them.. that poor little baby, just the thought of it being out there in the blazing sun is just killing me... you have to do something.. |
So Sad 1 Attachment(s) That's awful!! We had next-door neighbors who had a Shar-pei and they never brought him inside. Granted, he had food, water and shelter - but IMHO that isn't enough! This dog was on a short run leash (I don't even know what they're called) and it allowed him to get into the hot little house and reach the food/water, but no one ever went near him except to fill his bowls. He sat there day and night unloved, unattended. One time he managed to get caught between their yard and my yard, under the fence, and another neighbor and I managed to free him even though he was becoming vicious. Dogs that are chained all day and un-cared for become mean, it's a fact. Eventually the neighbors got together and told them that they couldn't take it any more and I guess they got rid of him. One day he just wasn't there any more. I think the biggest question to me is: Why even buy a dog just to chain it in the yard and ignore it? A few days later they were showing off their new Chihuahua and not too soon after they moved away. We have wonderful neighbors now and they have a 95-lb Boxer who is madly in love with Kalina. He just sits and waits for her at the fence...it's so cute. |
What they did with the white dog was outrageous! Bless you V for helping that poor baby out. I can't imagine how you're feeling with this new baby tied out there.... I think you're a nicer person than I and you have the right idea going to speak with them face to face. Perhaps with some "diplomatic" wording they will understand that tying their pet outside all day long (no matter what the weather) is just not acceptable! I'm hoping they're somewhat rational people and will do the right thing for this little poodle. |

I'll let you all know if they're home and what they say. |
Why? I do not understand the point of having a dog that is only outside. Why have a dog that you dont play with? I know some people get big dogs for protection, but why a tiny poodle? I dont get it! I would call and report them for sure. In the meantime you could put a big picnic umbrella up on your side of the fence to create shade on their side. Maybe they would get the hint. |
i wouldnt leave a note , that would just make them mad i think,, you should wait until they get home and then talk to them face to face.. let them know just how cruel it is to leave an animal out there in this weather. they just might listen to you, maybe they dont know anybetter. first give them the benefit of the doubt.. see what they say and what kind of people they really are... maybe they are just stupid and need to hear it from someone else... dumb asses |
I haven't read all the posts but isn't leaving a dog outside in the heat like that animal cruelty? Also I would think that if they have already had animals taken from them that there is probably some sort of stipulation about them having another dog. I think I'd call it in again to file a complaint and ask them what the rules are on that. if they aren't home, I'd offer the dog some shelter from the heat. Yes, I'd take the dog to my house and then discuss it with them when I returned the dog. If I returned the dog. :) Maybe they'll think it ran away. p.s. don't forget to mention that you have friends in the 'mafia'. LOL |
I cant wrap my head around outside dogs. I mean arent dogs supposed to be part of the family? Do you leave your children outside in the heat day in and day out doing nothing but throwing them some food? What kind of life is that? I totally understand letting them out to play. I live in an aprtment but I would love to have a yard for Britain to play in. But I would always be out there with her and I would never leave her there. Its just cruel. They need love and companionship just as much as anyone else....how can people look out the window at an animal and see the lonliness and sadness in its eyes and mistake that for physical hunger? Like oh look fidos upset he must need food. Not oh crap its a bazillion degrees and he is probably burning up I mean he has been chained to that tree for 2 months. Have you pet him in a few weeks? Nah? Me either....better go give him some food....ya thats it the gravy train we bought at the dollar store...thats good for him. Water? nah..hes got water see teh duck in the puddle to his left. if he can stretch far enough he can get a sip or two. Its so upsetting how cruel and ignorant people can be sometimes. I like the idea of checking on a time frame....maybe they are breaking the rules...hopefully for that doggy's sake they are. |
You know somthing, i am so sorry i could not carry on reading this post...i live in the uk and people just dont care...they leave their dogs outside in all weathers, and even in the cars in the heat... |
What the heck are people thinking? Looks like they haven't learned after the first pet they neglected. I hope you can make them understand this is wrong. Go get em V. |
I just don't get people. This country needs much stricter animal abuse laws. I hope you can get them to understand what they are doing is soooo wrong. |
OMG..that poor baby. I've reported people before and will do it again in a heart beat. Thank God you were there V, its awful to think that baby would have just died there in pain and alone. I have to stop now, im really upset.:wavecry: |
Well ...I'm on my way and do hope they're home - I'm pretty good with people and hope they don't get too pissed at me not that I care...I usually don't butt into peoples business like this but man - I just know if I don't say something now they'll continue to leave that little poodle out there - they didn't care one bit about the other dog they had and I know in my heart they would have let him die that day - the ASPCA said he was on his last HOURS if they hadn't taken him and he was suffering horribly. What got me is their excuse was no money for the vet YET they had just bought this HUGE new jungle gym for the yard.....the thing is as big as my house yet they couldn't take a suffering dog to a vet ? MAKCAI - that's sad to hear about the UK. In extreme weather states like Texas... no one should leave a dog outside |
v, hurry up back, im only here till 4:55 then i log off and go home.. now im worried for you... have my fingers crossed |
Do what you gotta do girl. My god, I live in the south, and know its too hot for a dog to stay outside like that. And I did go see the pics of other dog....jeeze, and they were able to get another dog??? I'd sure check to see if they are allowed to get another dog!! Some people need to be shot, but I wouldn't suggest going quite that far, lol. With a dog in the shape the last one was in, NO WAY should they ever be allowed to own another one! |
OH NO I can't believe they have left her out like that! I hope you can talk some sense into her V. |

Maybe I'm wrong for thinking this but I'd just take him (if I noticed he/she was out there for an extended period of time.. a week or two. |
