| Racism in todays world- Sorry for the length Today's world seems to baffle me...I am confused by so many people being in rallies; protests; and walks for causes...but we still have open hatred for people. I guess I just needed a place to vent; and my mom (who I would normally call to vent to) was working Today I came home from the market; to find my neighbor having a twin size sheet hanging between our duplex porch. Normally this wouldn't bother me besides it looking like complete trash..but the sheet was a Confederate Flag. Now I know that there are many meanings behind this flag...but we are not in the south; so there is no Southern meaning to it for her...and my boyfriend is African American. I viewed it as complete ignorance. I knocked on her door...and asked if she wanted to hang her opinions and views she has every right to; but I would prefer if it was strictly on her side of the porch. She laughed... and then her son and herboth standing at the door told me that, "I will take it down when you get that n****r boyfriend of yours out of your house, we can smell him from here." I completely flipped my handle went ballistic...took the flag down myself; and am now looking for a new place to live. I am utterly shocked with the way the world works. It is sicking to me...I don't have the time to worry about other peoples ignorance; but I will make every bit of time when they begin offending me straight on. I feel that people can stare. People can look...but why be so ignorant to call names...to hang offensive things?? I don't get it??? Thanks for allowing me to rant

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Well, unfortunately, it's out there. Too bad for you to get an up close and personal glimpse of it like that. However ... I personally would rather know the toxic chemicals I'm living next door to. And that reminds me of an old Irish toast: May those that love us, love us. And those that don’t love us, May God turn their hearts. And if he doesn’t turn their hearts, May he turn their ankles, So we’ll know them by their limping. |

Your better off moving. I was under the impression being Racial was against the law. Call the police and report that incident. I know it will never go away in our time but to be blunt about it I belive is against the law. |

| It's total ignorance on their part - I can't even imagine what I would do in that situation - Hopefully handle it like you did without getting physical - |

| So Sorry I feel so sorry for you! I understand the hurt of racism all too well. I have two biracial children. I have endure many hurtful comments. My children have been told not to play with their children. It doesnt happen too much where we live but it happens when I go home to where I grew up. I actually was told that I should put sunscreen on my son because he was too dark!! I am just glad that they are too young to understand

And, while the above blatant example is horrible, I find that the "milder" racist inclinations are just as disturbing. I can't tell you how often I've heard white people (and I'm white, just to give perspective) say "I have black friends" when trying to explain that they are NOT racist - even though the statement they JUST made was indeed racist! And, I often hear (i.e., during telling a story or whatever) "this black guy was crossing the street" even though the story has NOTHING whatsoever to do with the fact that he's black! Why not say "this guy was crossing the street". It's those types of insidious comments that are truly scary bc they're so subtle that many people don't even pick up on them, and many would just refuse to admit that the comments are racist. ARGH! Okay, off my soapbox.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Thank you for getting this!! We are so on the same page. If people always said "I saw this white girl wearing a cute outfit..." - that would be one thing, but they don't say that. They only use skin color if the person is black - when the statement has nothing to do w/ color! Confounding!

| LOL awe I like that one too..."your not white" I get that all the time...My boyfriends friends tell me that when they make stupid comments then try to cover it up. It is funny to me.. at the same time annoying because I am like oh but I am and I wish you wouldn't even think the things to begin with.
