OH.MY.GOD. I'm practically speechless! I am appalled at those horrible humans and am so sorry you had to experience that. Racism is one of my biggest "triggers". It truly saddens me.
And, while the above blatant example is horrible, I find that the "milder" racist inclinations are just as disturbing. I can't tell you how often I've heard white people (and I'm white, just to give perspective) say "I have black friends" when trying to explain that they are NOT racist - even though the statement they JUST made was indeed racist! And, I often hear (i.e., during telling a story or whatever) "this black guy was crossing the street" even though the story has NOTHING whatsoever to do with the fact that he's black! Why not say "this guy was crossing the street".
It's those types of insidious comments that are truly scary bc they're so subtle that many people don't even pick up on them, and many would just refuse to admit that the comments are racist. ARGH!
