| ![]() The answer to this question is pretty simple. We have a free market economy. Supply and demand. Breeders and other suppliers ask for what they can get, and people will pay what they're willing to pay. It will vary a lot according to region, sociatal values (my husband would have had a fit if he had ever known what I paid!), what celebrity has what dog now, etc. That's just the way it goes! Kathy |

| ![]() I always thought one of the factors in the price of a pooch is also the amount of money invested by the breeder. They search for the best dogs to breed. Sometimes they pay for shipping or their own airfare to buy that sire or dam. Then all the veterinary care for the parents and the pups once they come along. Not to mention feeding, bathing, cleaning supplies, potty pads. Some breeds aren't as numerous, so making the connections can be a bit more costly.

| ![]() When I mentioned to my breeder that the price for a Yorkie was more than double what I had paid for a Golden Retriever, her response was a Yorkie's life span is quite a bit longer, they have far less pups and many times need to have a C-section when giving birth and that can be expensive.

Now, I don't know where people are selling Chi's for $1,000. That seems really expensive to me. I thought they were only a couple hundred bucks. *Shrugs* what do I know.

![]() Chi's are super expensive here. Never seen one go for less than a grand. Funny thing, I grew up in Arizona. I went back to visit this past x-mas and Chihuahuas were for sale all over the place..........some went for 100 bucks! But then again, everyone and their mother owns one in that town. ![]()
