You Southerners!! Now that I have moved North, everyone wants me to cook them a ''southern meal'':) . I can't think of traditional southern food:confused: . I think of ANYTHING fried, and grits. Any suggestions? Gotta love the south!! |
For breakfast, definitely biscuits and gravy...I could NEVER find that when I lived up north! LOL! Maybe beans and cornbread for other meals? And you're right about fried foods and grits, those are definitely southern! |
Well I was born and raised in Texas so the first thing that came to my mind was beans with pan fries and corn bread. Course you can't go wrong with fried chicken potato salad. Or chicken and dumplings. I gotta stop now I'm getting hungry. :D |

How about good 'ol fried okra. I work with a girl that's from New York and she had never heard of fried okra until she came to Texas. My grandmother had a wonderful garden and I can still remember her frying up a batch of okra or squash. I can't wait for summer to get all the fresh veggies. |

YES! You've got a long way from TN though! Probably a good 30 hours!:D |
well, you need good seafood... LOL Etouffee is the best! how about some sauce picante... actually, we were really raised on good ole rice and gravy, and of course you gotta hve the tater salad and fresh lemonade... YUM.. makes me hungry |
Definetly fried potatos, corn bread, fresh green beans, fresh fried corn, pork chops, sliced fresh tomato and cucumber and green onions. And soup beans w/ chow chow, sour kraut and weiners, corn bread and a slice on onion...YUM. Just think of anything from a Cracker Barrel menu. |
I am seriously getting hungry! Okay which is better? Homemade buscuits, or busquick, or other premade? |

That stuff just sounds too good. I loooove biscuits and gravy. It's my favorite breakfast food!! |

Also, make cornbread WITHOUT sugar, otherwise you would call that corncake, not cornbread.. and the only way to make real southern biscuit -- use lard... Lynn and Gin-Gin:aimeeyork |
Don't forget the turnip greens!!!! Turnip greens, fried okra, black-eye peas, fried chicken, cornbread - oh, and throw in some sliced tomato or fried green tomato - YUM!!!! |
Too late!!!!!!!! i am too late for breakfast but here's my favorite. Fried eggs, fried sausage, fried potatoes, fried apples, gravy, biscuits, grits 9not the sugar kind so many people like. just plain cooked grits with salt and pepper and a little butter. then to top it off. Sliced red juicy tomatoes. coffee and O.J. |

(deep breath....)....or you might want to go Creole with some jambalaya, dirty rice, crawfish, or etouffee. Now do you see why I had to start dieting? LOL!!! |
Greens, greens and more greens (with hamhocks, of course). And don't forget the gumbo!!!! |

OMG this thread is like going to a southern potluck! I think this is my favorite thread!!! YUMMMM! Guess what I had for breakfast? Buscuits and sausage gravy, eggs, and sausages!! Oh man... |
Chicken Bog, Chicken Bog and more Chicken Bog. I miss that more than anything! You can even throw in some of that Nilla Wafer pudding stuff (can't remember what it's called). NOW I'm hungry! Oops, forgot hushpuppies and honey butter. Did you know hushpuppies got their name from the old days when the cooks were frying cornbread and there were always dogs around begging. So the ladies would throw ball of the dough to them and tell them to "Hush! Puppies", |
Well, in Texas it's BBQ, Potato Salad, Rice & Beans, Fried Chicken, Pork Chops....just to name a few ;) :p Oh and of course, we can't forget the Iced Tea!!!   |
Don't forget to put slaw on whatever you make;) . |
