| ![]() Oh my! Thank you for all your kind comments. ![]() ![]() ![]() By law we have to hold him for 5 days to see if anyone comes to claim him. So everybody please put your little paws together and pray that nobody comes to try and claim him. ![]() P.S. Walter is the true angel.. He's a miracle in himself. The fact that he could endure such neglect and abuse and still remain the kind soul and cuddle bug that he is.. I'll tell you.. He's the kind of dog that makes you sit back and realise how lucky you are, you know? He's amazing and he gives me faith. ![]()

| ![]() Small update on little Walter. He is doing great! Everyday he is becoming more and more loving! He even talks! This morning while they were making his breakfast he started making these funny noises that sound like he's singing! He's so sweet and I can't believe how lucky we are to have him. He's such a doll baby! ![]()

| ![]() Yea, he only bit because he was hurt and was spooked when I tried to put the slip lead on him. I was expecting it and kept my hands back and let him get my forearm and I was fine because I had a long sleeve shirt and a hoodie on. I've picked up several stray dogs in the past 2 or so years and nearly all of them have tried to snap when I had them cornered. (hehe that's how I wound up with three of my six dogs <3) Because that's all they know to do when they're cornered, it's their instinct. There's nothing more rewarding than grabbing a dog off a dangerous road, wrestling them into your car, both your hearts racing and after it's all over and everybodys calmed down they give you kisses and forget the whole ordeal. That's why dogs are so amazing. Like Cesar says, dogs don't care about yesterday and they definately don't worry about tomorrow. The only thing that matters is right now. ![]() Just a tip for anyone who's ever put in this type of situation.. Once you actually get the dog on the lead, just start walking. Nothing builds trust with a dog better or faster than walking. I wouldn't have been able to pick Walter up if I hadn't walked him up and down the street a couple times while knocking on neighborhood doors. (I hated it because I knew his leg was injured but I knew that he could have been hurt worse if I had immediately tried to force him into my car if he panicked) Once he had trotted around a bit he began walking closer to me, picking up his head and watching me and finally leaning on me to allow me to pick him up. (I covered him with my hoodie anyways just for a safety precaution) ![]() Oh yea, and if you get the chance take an animal cpr class! I'm registered now and it teaches you so much and it can really save lives. If I needed too I knew how to make a muzzle from a slip lead and how too lift him properly w/ his injured leg. The class is also how I knew to cover his face with my hoodie to avoid bites and how to properly approach him. It's a very rewarding feeling to be educated on how to save and protect not only your own pets but others as well.

| ![]() What a great outcome. You are definitely a very special person. You were meant to find him. Hopefully there is the perfect person out there somewhere meant to adopt him. Where in WV are you? My husband is orginally from Beckley and still has family there. Just curious.

| ![]() Walter came out of isolation on wednesday. We have had him to several specialists about his leg and all determined that he shouldn't have surgery. The two bones pieces are spaced so far apart that there is no rubbing occuring and he has zero pain in his leg at all. If they were to try the surgery they would have to insert a plate and many screws. (since the bone is dead it will not just be able to be reset and regrow itself) We had a toy poodle from Katrina that had an old break so we did the surgery and twice the plate broke during recovery and had to be replaced. (the recovery period for each plate was over 6months) He was in a lot of pain and therefore was on pain prevention medication. He was finally adopted by a wonderful lady but he wasn't home a month when the plate broke again and they decided to amputate his leg. He is fine now and doing great as a tripod ![]() Like I said, he came out of isolation on wednesday and spent the day w/ our on staff trainer, Karry, to be evaluated. He proved to be a spoiled grumpy old man! hehe (I already knew that!) He is quite sensitive to his tail being touched, he is a professional food stealer & begger, he runs VERY fast for a dog w/ a gimp leg, he loves his tummy rubbed, he's a little food aggressive (definately fixable), he can jump baby gates (hehe I already knew that too since he jumped my backseat!), he hates to be left alone, he will talk to you if you ignore him or leave him alone, he loves his butt scratched, he adores other dogs, he balances on his broken leg so he can lift his good leg to mark the bushes outside ![]() ![]() Hopefully this week I will be able to bring him up to my office on a daily basis. ![]()
