| ![]() I'm typing this through the tears! My father-in-law passed away on the 17th (that's why I haven't been around much, been out of town) after a 6 year battle with cancer and our loss is still so fresh. My husband, his brother, sister, and step mother-in-law were all with him when he took his last breath. And like you, his parents have been divorced for many, many years and there were many bitter years between them. But in the past 10 years, they managed to put aside the bitterness and actually had become good friends. Cherish the memories you have, let them be a comfort to you in the coming days and weeks that lay before you. I'm so very glad that my boys had such a loving relationship with their Paw Paw as well as the rest of us. Right now, that is what is getting us through these difficult days. God bless you and sending my prayers to you and your family.

| ![]() I'm so very sorry. It's very hard to lose a parent right in front of your eyes (I know from personal experience). At least you were there to offer comfort and support during his last moments. Hugs to you and your mom. May you find peace during this difficult time. PS - Happy birthday Timmy.

| ![]() You have my sincere sympathy. There is no easy way to deal with the loss of a parent regardless of the circumstances. Only those of us who have gone through this life event can truly comprehend. My sisters and I have been through the loss of both of our parents. Our Mom died suddenly, without any warning and our Daddy after a long, slow, extremely distressing - for many reasons - decline. We were in shock after we lost Mom and I didn't actually start the grieving process until about about four months later when I realized I was in the middle of dialing her phone number to ask her a question. That's when it really hit me. We were with Daddy when he died and even though we all knew he was ready to go, it was still very difficult. So good that you were able to make peace with him at the end. Sometimes angels do watch over us. The three of us now live in different parts of the country, none in our home town or state. We had been planning a big birthday bash for Daddy's 80th, but then all decided we'd go home and celebrate his 79th birthday too. He was doing quite well then and we had a great time. He began to decline rapidly not long after then and passed away the next June -- two months before his 80th. It will help in time that he left this world on a day that has other, happier significance for you --- gives you something else to focus on. We lost Mom on New Years Eve. |
