I remember being a first time member here. It was Villette that first pm-d me and made me feel at home. Over time, I had made some really close friends. It went from simple pm-s to phone calls. Now days, I don't hang with anyone. I kinda keep to myself. :)

and I can take it a step further - YOU made ME feel special that day we met....so everyone can see - Friendships CAN happen online - this is Txshopper and I at the doggie park....Isnt she too pretty ?

another way to get to know people is by going to meetups in your area...there are regional boards here http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=26

A lot of times I don't stay with my thread because I am so very busy with housetraining my Uma, and of course JuJu HAS to do everything the new pup does, so she is getting a refresher too! Then there is the supervised play time, the leash training, the free time outside, chow time, and of course cuddle and groom time! I am just busy! Hopefully things will slow down as Uma matures, and I will be able to spend more free time of my own. I do love this site!:aimeeyork

i felt that way too.. people would ask for help on something and i have no idea what to say so i felt like i coudlnt' contribute.. but the more i read the more i learn and i find the longer i've had layla the more things i've expereinced that i can help someone with. i'm not sure my advice is any good mind you.. but i know i feel better when someone at least responds to my post. I feel VERY good since this is the first time i've posted and had SUCH a huge response.. usually i'm happy if i can get 9!

:( don't give up !! it really helps to connect via pm's....many times I see something in the RIP section :( or a little puppy is sick and will write that person just to wish them well....I've gotten to know several people by doing that ....i always feel so bad hearing about puppies who are sick or who passed on....and it only takes a minute of our time to offer moral support ....

V it's very true. That's how I started feeling like I belonged. When I was crying over someone's posting about their pet, I PMd the person to say so or else posted it. After I lost my poodle last year, people were so nice to respond to my posting about it. That's when I began to feel a part of YT. Now, I'm pretty comfortable here.

I don't always respond to everything that interests me because I can't do them all. And I don't respond to the negative/slamming posts unless it's apparent that the poster needs some encouragement toward the positive or I have facts that are different than what he or she says. If they're just being slammers, I stay away. I don't want to encourage that.

I've met some special people here on YT. I think we're a pretty good group of people!:)

I just started looking at the bottom of the main forum page and looking at the birthdays. I look at their profil page and if they have been on recently I send a Happy Birthday wish....
I figured it might just be a little something to get my foot in the door. And maybe just maybe bring just a little joy to their day.

That's a GREAT idea and good for you thinking of it.....

I found YT while I was searching for help with my Chi who was born with a cleft palate. And even though she wasn't a Yorkie, ALOT of people reached out to me to help me, as I think my very 1st post was a scream for help!!! Never even took a second to introduce myself :)

I loved all the help and concern I recieved for my baby Tia and I decided to stick around.

Since then...there have been days I may have felt unloved or no one answered my threads and my feelings may have been hurt a bit, but over all........I think I've mat some AWESOME, HEARTFILLED, LOVING, CARING, GIVING, HELPFUL....... I could go on and on....people ever.

I think I actually felt I belonged when all the xmas cards coming in :D :D :D

Its was the 1st time I ever got sooooo many cards !!!

I love everyone here........YT has been great

I just thought of doing it after this thread got started so it has just been 2-3 days of it. You would NOT believe the amount of people in the Birthday section that with no activity since 2004, 2005 and mid 2006. LOTS... I usually only get 1-3 that are still active.

Sent Stinky a Birthday wish and got a Thank you in reply. I just think it is neat to have someone notice you on your one & only special day..

I think that with these online boards, you have to make yourself known. Whether it's posting a picture of your furbaby or asking for advice, you have to post in order to get recognized. Even if it means your post might be controversial! :)

There are times when I want to post, and then I think "are these people going to think that I'm an idiot?" In the end, I probably delete 3/4 of the things that I type...

I really appreciate everyone's help from Izzie's lack-of-growth-spurt to just showing off pictures of her! :D

LOL you are so right....I made myself known as a goofball pretty fast here and sometimes I think I need to delete 3/4's of what I say :D :D

V, if you deleted what you said, there would be alot of people here not smiling.... you are a bright light!

Same here - But I do have to admit that I've always had someone respond to most of my posts. Thanks guys!!!

I'm anxiously awaiting to feeling like I belong & making lots of friends :ghug:

Thank You YorkieRose for responding to my pm you've been very helpful:)

cheeselover8481 03-03-2007 07:20 PM

I will really feel like I "belong" once I meet some people. I have never met anyone on this forum. It's hard to put faces on people if you have never met. After a year of being a member I still don't pm anyone on this site.

That said, everyone is very helpful here. I'm glad I found YT. Since Rosie is my first dog, I had lots of questions. Now I know more about dogs than my co-worker's who had dogs all their life.

MeganS 03-03-2007 07:47 PM

To everyone who still doesn't quite feel like they "belong" - HI!! A LOT - most - of our members felt the same exact way at one time or another! and well I'm Megan! Nice to meet you, wanna be friends? My PM box is always open, and I'm usually signed onto AIM (My screen name is yrklvr4 - IM me!)! I hope to "meet" you soon!

Wow, I just saw this thread. It is interesting how everyone feels when first joining! I still remember when I joined, I felt like my posts were boring and thats why responses were limited. And of course, felt like every question I asked was stupid :-). I think the first time I really felt like "part of the group" was when Abbies Mom was so kind to pm me and offer to make an avatar for AprilLove. I was sooo happy!!!! I think the pm'ing really makes it feel more personal. Also, posting tons of pics helps too (lol) It helps replying to as many posts as possible as you just might help one person out and that is worth all the typing :) I also feel like others in that getting a response from one of the "senior" (just an expression ;) members like V or SimonandHallie, to name a couple, is something we all aspire to ;) .
But most of all, I think I realized I am a member of a group that all have one thing in common for sure: our love of this breed!!! I also realized, since i am on here EVERY day, that I am a YorkieHolic, and I NEED you guys :p :p You are my therapy, my rationalization that it is ok to be so obsessed with my babies :thumbs up Oh yeah, and making 500 posts and getting whatever I wanted under my Avatar name was a special moment too.

MsCheryle478 04-01-2007 05:30 PM

I felt like I belonged almost immediately. I was so distraught that I had bought a puppymill baby. Then she was sick from the get go. Yet no one judged me, yet offered continual support. It also seemed that I could never ask a "stupid" question. Which made me feel at home even more. Heck, today I spoke with Daisy Mae on the telephone. GREAT lady btw. LOL

Punkin&Piper 04-01-2007 05:35 PM

I'm starting to make friends on here and its wonderful

StewiesMom 04-01-2007 06:07 PM

I felt like I fit in right away. The community was still relatively small back then, and it was easy to keep up with everyone and their babies!

LuvtheCooper 04-01-2007 06:13 PM

It's funny to come across this thread today...I have been a member here for a year and half. I confess, I read more than I post. This is a wonderful site though, so helpful and lots of nice people. I didn't feel like I "belonged" for forever, then I started to feel like I did, and was posting more. I have just been out of town for a month, though, with no internet (and it was very, very hard:p ) and when I came back and posted about missing YT, I only got one "welcome back" (thanks Blondiegrl) and was feeling kinda...uh, don't know the exact wording for it, but was feeling it. But, I have gotten over myself;) and I think posts get lost in the shuffle of so many, so I am not gonna take it personally:rolleyes: I do love this site, though, I am definitely addicted to it and if everyone doesn't know me, oh well, I just enjoy all the pics and helpful advice. I also enjoy using all these smilies!!!

TammyJM 04-01-2007 06:25 PM

So funny to come across this thread. I was just wondering today, as I was reading through some posts, if I will ever feel like I belong. Everyone seems so close and I am sure this takes time. I am very new but have been so lucky to have gotten to know Jeanie (JeanieK) better. I am spoiled to our daily emails, usually several emails a day. She is such a nice woman...great representation of the kindness on this board! :) I am excited to get to know you guys better!!

Tammy

*sophie's mama* 04-01-2007 06:59 PM

I think I got lucky. Moments after my first post DaisyMae pm'd me and was so excited to have another member from Nebraska. I thought that was awesome and honestly I was giddy! I think the longer Sophie is a part of our family the more I will be able to contribute to other posts.

MyTrixie143 04-02-2007 01:17 AM

I have been a member for almost a year now and at times I still feel as though I don't belong or that I am not noticed. But I love it here and have made a few friends and would like to make more friends.:)

NO WAY !! only ONE ??  You know if I saw that post I would have replied !!! I've MISSED you :) :) :) and it's soooo good to see your name again....so WELCOME BACK Delaina !! lol - where were you that you had no computer access ...Siberia ???

you're right - SOME THREADS GET MISSED ...it's just so impossible now to reply to them all. I used to give it my all american try but lately it's just ain't happenin :D I've slowed down in posting alot compared to before....

and for those who don't feel they 'belong'....all I can say is KEEP Posting and don't take the amounts of replies vs views personally. There are many many people who read only. If you want to be noticed and get to know people better - POST ! Replying to pictures is the easiest way to build up your post count - we all can't offer advise all the time but it takes NO effort to tell someone they have a cute yorkie !!

Booboo'smommy 04-02-2007 04:17 AM

I haven't made the conection with many people yet but hopefully there is someone there who'd like to be friends. And I might find them one day.
