Donating YT 7000 Club Member | *sigh* My Spanish Teacher...... is driving me insane. Sorry this is kind of a rant...I'm just totally ready to claw someone's eyes out. My Spanish teacher (if you want to call her that) is possibly the most useless teacher on the planet. I've taken Spanish with her for 7 years, and I still have look up every single word she says in the dictionary (Spanish-English dictionary) to figure out what she's saying. I've been told (by my friend who was raised speaking spanish) that she pronounces words wrong, and says the wrong words in certain places. My problem is that I haven't learned anything with her. and it's not just my study habbits, because even the straight A students aren't learning anything. She's mean and nasty to certain students. There's this one boy, Steven, and she [nearly every day] sends him out into the hallway if he just looks at her weird. and we get DAILY lectures on how "we should already know this stuff" if someone asks her a question. (example: I asked her if some word meant read or write, and she starts lecturing the ENTIRE class on how we should already know these things. for like the entire period that's all she did. she never even answered my question!) My personal feelings (along with several other kids) are that she isn't doing her job, and she shouldn't be there. Problem? She's tenured. She can't be fired. I don't picture myself ever being able to speak fluently in another language, but I'd like a chance, and with her I just don't have that. maybe we're all just being over dramatic, but if she's going to be there, she should be doing her job. and if she's not doing her job, she shouldn't be there. Opinions? I know that once a teacher is tenured it's nearly impossible to fire them. But don't you think that we as students have the right to a proper education?

That really sucks that you've taken so many years of a foreign language and don't feel that you've gotten anything out of it

No Longer a Member | Megan, I'm assuming you're in high school, yes? This is what I can say. It is very unfortunate that you have what sounds like a tired teacher. By that I mean she sounds like she has lost her drive to really see her kids excel. If it were something you could fight, chances are it would be tied up longer than you'll be in her class. Unfortunately, you will find this in college too. If nothing else, you can take from the class this: sometimes in life there are some things that you just have to put up with; its the bad with the good kind of thing. Some college sections are only offered by one professor, and if that person is a bear, you just have to learn to get through it because the course is required to graduate. Work can sometimes be this way too. The key is to not dwell on the negative. Grin and bear it, and count the days until it's over. Hopefully, you'll get a better teacher the next time. |

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | Thanks guys. I'm actually in middle school (8th grade), not high school. and I know that I'll have to deal with people I don't like or people I don't get along with, that's part of life. It's just so frustrating because I do think I have the ability to learn another language. But sitting in her class is turning me away from ever wanting to! Just today, we walked in and we were chatting a little (we're 13 and 14 year olds, what else do we do between class?) instead of just telling us to be quiet like any normal person would do, she rants about how noisy we are for 20 minutes. oh and she constantly says "It's not my problem how you do on your tests. Doesn't affect me." No problem there, or anything. /sarcasm and I really can't say anything about it to her...........she thinks I like her. I am considering though, recording one of my classes (audio), just so the principal can hear how she talks to us.

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | Nope. I go to a pretty small school (there's about 350 kids in 4th-8th grade total), so there's only one foreign language class.

| haha what is it with the small school language classes. when i used to go to grade school, there was 200 kids from pre-k to 8th grade, and we had the worst italian teacher you could possibly imagine. she barely knew italian and all we did in that class was watch star wars and play bingo XD

| I think that giving a teacher tenure is just ridiculous. I had a math teacher who failed 90% of his students. Duh I think he needs to be kicked to the curb. |
