| University of Phoenix.. GRRR OMG, University of Phoenix Online SUCKS!!! My Financial Advisor and Academic Counselor were both total dicks to me at first. My Financial Advisor is no longer with the company and I now have a new one, but everything has to be this big ole process. Nothing can be done with one phone call. Today I just wanted to order an Official Transcript. I called one person, who referred me to an 800#. They told me to call my Financial Advisor who transferred me to my Academic Counselor who transferred me BACK to my Financial Advisor! WTH??? Why does it need to be so complicated?!? AND, not to mention that the tuition is outrageous for the educating I'm receiving. I've seriously taken 3 classes there so far and can honestly say I haven't learned a thing. And I've spend nearly $5,000... all to learn nothing so far. Seriously - I'm about to say screw it and find another school to go to. I initially enrolled because I need to work 40 hours and my job is M-F, 8am-5pm. Since I moved to Arizona, I have to pay a substantial amount in rent to my BF, so he can pay the mortgage. So I thought UoP online would be great because it's convenient. It's been nothing but a huge ball of stress so far! I've been enrolled for 3 classes (since October 31), and I JUST now found out how much I'm eligible for in student aid. 3 1/2 months later... WTH!!! GRRRRRR... sorry, I just needed to vent!!

| From what I've heard, University of Phoenix (if its the school that I am thinking of.. the one that advertises with a ton of commercials) online is a scam.

| I went there and they lied to me about the amount of classes I had to take when i started there .... that wouldnt even count towards my degree. First he said 2 then when I finished those he told me 4 more. So now I go to Grand Canyon University online... I like it. I know Pheonix is not a scam though. My mom teaches online classes for them. But she doesnt really like the way they do things.

| U of Phoenix is definitely NOT a scam. They might have some problems, but not a scam. I am not, and have never been as student there. However I have read some articles on U of Phoenix in some magazines that were positive. |

| The school is not technically a "scam," however it does have shady practices both financially and academically. NY Times did an article on them quite recently, and mentioned the websites ripoffreport.com and uopsucks.com. You may want to check them out to see other people's experiences. I hope you will get things resolved though.

| I was definitely lied to by my Financial Advisor on multiple occasions - of course, now she is no longer with the company. I don't think they're a scam - you really get a degree and all - the they claim to be a private university which is why they cost so much ($28,000 for the last 2 years of my Bachelor's ). I'll be finding another university to attend for sure. I just can't believe all the lies I've been fed and now it's basically like "Oh well, you're going to have to re-do this, and this, and this..." Of course now they're all being super nice to me and are saying "please consider continuing your degree program with us" blah blah blah.

| Many universities now offer online courses. Some even offer accelerated programs that offer classes on weekends only so that you'll still be able to work. Check some of the local universities in your area and see what they offer.

| I didn't know my local university had distance learning until you said this and I looked into it. I was pursuing a Health Administration degree - but University of Arizona has a Health Sciences degree through distance learning. Thanks for the suggestion... you may have just saved me thousands of dollars (in state tuition is like $4,500 per year... which is $9,000 total, give or take... to finish my Bachelor's). That's a lot less than the $25,000+ that I would have had to pay at University of Phoenix Online.

| Yep, I did learn my lesson... and you're right, it's not a total loss. It just sucks that I got burned like I did. Oh well... hopefully this thread helps someone before they get sucked in to University of Phoenix.
