E-Filing your Taxes??

We married in October of 2006.

I really want to do the taxes online, but i'm really scared! LOL..

my dad's friend is the one who does our taxes (well did our families last year) and he was able to get me back a lot! but im scared i might have to pay this year because i went on disability due to my pregnancy.. and i didn't work that much.

thing is, he charges 200.00.. i'll see if i can try online.. i stopped working in may of 2006 so i didn't really work much, and didn't have that much income.. so i dont know if that'll play a role or not.

There's nothing to fear. Try online, enter all your info & see the results then just logout. You can go thru your dads friend and if he can do better good if not tell him... Well the first time I tried on line I saw my results, then went to H&R by myself, at the end I said ok I will have my husband come in sign & pay. But No because on line was way better so I called the secretary & just said I had decided to go a different route, if you dont actually file thru them you dont have to pay them (the lady that entered my info told me that) & what do you think they are doing while entering your info they are e-filing your taxes & charging you that fee plus their fees. So thats what I did to make my decision & feel comfortable that I am getting my maximum deductions. They ask you a lot more info then most accountants do, but may be your dads is good to-only one way to find out

ok i tried online as single not claiming my daughter. (she was born halfway through the year).. and i guess i liked the results, but my dad said his friend that has always done his taxes can do way better.. and plus he can help with the confusion i have lol.. maybe next year i'll stop being a chicken LOL

the last time i went to H&R Block two years ago - they charged me $170 for a simple long form. i said no way would i pay that much again and bought turbotax for less than $50 last year - very happy with the results - just bought turbotax software to file again this year.

Just FYI: You can claim your daughter as long as she is born within the year. The IRS considers you married for the entire year regardless of the actual date in which you married. So if you were married on December 31, 2006 the IRS would recognize your marriage for the entire tax year of 2006. The same rule applies to the birth of your daughter.

Also you dont have to buy turbo tax you just can go to the website & pay thru there, H&R probably has a site to. i think they just try to make a few extra bucks from those who dont know-I bet when you put the disc in it says upgrade to pro for just $$.

wow i had know idea! one thing though.. is it okay for both my husband and I to claim our daughter on our w2 forms?

because he was claming her after she was born, because i wasn't working, but when i started working, i did.. but theni lost my job so now he is.. LOL.. she's our first kid and this is the first time doing taxes together so i'm not sure!

If you are filing married you both will claim your daughter. Hope this helps.

If you guys are filing seperately No you both cant, you will have to file together & claim her together.
