| Pain medications....?????? Can dogs get addicted to pain medications? I have a little dog (around 3lbs.) that has been taking pain medications due to having to have surgery. She is only allowed to take it 2x's a day but has been waking me up every morning around 5 and begging for her meds. She is sitting up and twirling around for it. Before I can get it in her mouth she licks it all out of the syringe. Do you think that she's addicted to it? She's constantly begging/crying for it.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | OH how cute !! She probably loves the taste and that's why she's begging - I'd start giving her a treat when she doesn't need it anymore but you could be starting a habit you may not want to keep lol - FIVE Am ??? |

| If she really needs it, just put it in peanut butter or something so she doesn't relate. Bless her heart. |

| Yea, 5 am. I'm not a morning person either! I swear if she wasn't hurt, she'd be in so much trouble! LOL! I haven't been giving her anything when she doesn't need the meds. I pick her up and tell her I love her and to SHHHHHHH mommy is tired and needs her sleep. Then I just put her back to bed and go back to bed myself. Usually listening to her howel and cry until 630 or so. LOL! This is the pup that was thrown from the moving car that I rescued. She is doing so much better until this thing with the meds.

| I would say they could only if they are being given a narcotic over a long period of time. No different from people really where that is concerned. The peanut butter is great suggestion. Wean her off slowly. Best wishes! |

| Yes, she came to me when I needed her the most, right after Ace was stolen. Someone threw her out of their car while driving the highway. I found her taped up in that cardboard box. I took her to the vet right away. Last Tuesday (9th) she was attacked by a pitbull in my front yard. I rushed her to the vet and even assisted in her surgery. She is recovering nicely except I think she's hooked on the pain meds now. I'm sure she still needs them but she is constantly begging for it. She goes back on Tues. (16th) to have some of the stitches removed. I'm going to ask the vet about it then. I didn't do anything more than any other good person would do. She needs me and I need her. The kids named her Hope.

| I don't give her anything with it. I just give it to her the way it is.

| I would think that she is more "in to" having you get up at 5:00 am and get attention. Dogs really get addicted to schedules |

I love her name. Very fitting. I will keep you and her in my prayers. It sounds like she found you at the exact perfect moment. Maybe you could speak with your vet about alternative pain meds other than a narcotic because it does sound like she is going to need something over time due to her injuries. I wish you and her the best always. I must be out of the loop or I would have known what she went through. Take care and best wishes always. | |

| I hadn't told anyone about her being attacked. So don't feel like you're out of the loop. Part of her ear was torn off so the vet did a crop on both ears to try and make them look right. We think she may be a chi or min pin mix. So the cropped ears won't look to bad on her. She also has a puncture wound by her eye and on one of her back legs. She is getting so spoiled. She is constantly in someone's lap all wrapped up in a blanket. I hold her alot but the kids are constantly taking her from me and holding her too. We did this even before the surgery. She cried alot when we first got her and she was always shaking/shivering like she was cold. She is a sweet cuddlebug though and I love her to peices!!!!!

| Oh what a sad story. Thank goodness for people like you. You were her guardian angel. I would also call my vet to see about another medication. |
