Actually, the dictionary gives both pronunciations of the word. I think it depends on what part of the country you live in as to which one you use. For the most part around here, people use the way you don't like.

OMG I HATE when my bf says a thousand, he goes a "dousand", I'm always correcting him. And I hate when Ppl mispronounce Scizzors.

...........My bf always correct me when I try to say features as in face features but I always say futures. LOL

Well, it seems everyone down in Atlanta says "The Walmart". And the Ant thing is definitely a southern thing. Either Ant or Antee.

i'm guilty of ANT instead of Aunt..

i had a friend that would always say quit Peeenching me... instead of Pinching .. that drove me crazy!!!!

Also my mom says umind instead of Humid..

My mom always says.... Get the LEASE and take the dogs (or racoon) out! and no matter how many times i explain the differene between leash and lease...she dont get it!

I have to agree with you with the "aks" mistake, it makes me crazy! I also hate when people say fishes to describe a bunch of fish, or gooses as the plural of goose (should be geese)..
