A mean dog is a mean dog, no matter what the size or how much damage they can physically do. I'm positive that if yorkies were the same size as pitbulls, the mean ones would do the same amount of damage. And if pitbulls were 15lb dogs then they probably wouldnt be able to kill a person.

And of course, if a pitbull was bred to handle a bull, it has to be larger! a smaller dog (what were yorkies...30lbs originally?) would get stepped on!

As for pitbulls having the most attacks in history..I don't know if I would believe that. As I research, I'm coming up with sites saying they are the most, then sites saying that they arent. Other sites are saying how it's the pitbulls turn or whatever. Before it was dobermains, now it's pitbulls. Who knows what will be the "fighting craze" 10yrs from now. And you have to keep in mind, you cannot trust everything you read in the media. Of course the news is going to focus on pitbull attacks more than anything else. There's such a controversy over these poor dogs, it's going to get more readers and watchers and listeners. Also the whole nation is starting to hate these dogs. I'm sure some of the pitbull haters are also in the news business and have control over what's going out there. Media lies through their teeth at every chance they get, and they'll write anything for a good story, no matter how immoral or untrue it is.
I agree with Rae Rae's posts.

there are many reasons dogs attack i believe that if they are good trained dogs not mistreated neglected dogs there's a reason they just don't attack because they are a certain breed!! i looked up the breeder i have intrest in getting a pit baby from to my surpise the pups are $1000 upwards $3000! yeah hubby definatley says no now but i will have my blue pit...i willllllll.

here's the webbie http://www.zulloukennels.com/

Did you know that sometimes when an attack happens, it's not actually a pit bull? The people think it looks like a pit bull, so they say it is one.

My dog, Rusty, was attacked by a pit bull a few years ago. Most people, after an incident like that, would hate the breed. But I still love them. I know it wasn't the dog's fault, it was his stupid owners fault that he ended up that way. I watched the man beat his dog. (of course I would have said something, but I was like 6 or 7)

Eventually, his pitt bull got put to sleep. I'm devestated that that had to happen. I would've rather seen the owner get put to sleep before his poor dog. I'm just thankful that now he's out of the cruel hands of his owner.

It's never the dog's fault. Sometimes, when they attack a baby, it could be because they have a dirty diaper. I heard of a case like that once. They could have been startled. They could have not recognized their owner. Anything could have happened. We hear all the time on here "My yorkie goes crazy everytime I put on a hat/mask/jacket." etc. but it's always sooo cute - because they're little. Well, guess what? Same thing happens to Pitts, but it's not so cute - because they AREN'T little.

all dogs are born to kill, but it depends on the owner, the INDIVIDUAL DOG'S PERSONALITY, and the circumstances what happens. notice how I bolded some of that. We are always taught not to be prejudice or raicist - don't judge a whole group of people by things that a few of those kind do wrong. Why should dogs be any different? They shouldn't. My Rusty has never bitten anyone, and I'm confident when I say he's friendly towards everyone. But if someone asked me "does he bite?" I'm not going to say no. of course he bites - he's a dog. Has he bitten anyone? no. But I don't doubt his ability to kill someone or something. My point is, all dogs have the potential to be unfriendly, some just are more sensitive about it than others.

I'm telling any of you who doubt the safety of pitt bulls - go onto a forum for them. You'll find owners just like us who treat them like babies - just like we do. Just because they're a different breed, and careless owners cause them to have a bad rep, doesn't mean they dont deserve life and loving families.

Sorry about that rant, I just feel VERY strongly on this subject.

Thanks for posting that. The video brought tears to my eyes. I have never owned a pit and don't think I ever will. They are not the right breed for me personally. I do believe that alot of a dogs behavior is in the way they are raised. Any dog can attack.

I don't really think I believe that first part. There are hundreds of other dog breeds that kill people all the time. Akitas are VERY VERY dangerous dogs. My cousin was attacked by an Akita, but I know it's not all of them. There are some very sweet Akitas, too. Like I've said, each individual dog's personality. I've met a lot of incredibly vicious small dogs. I know that if they were bigger I wouldn't go near them, sometimes I don't like walking past them even though they're small.

And as I said in my earlier post, IF they have the most attacks recorded in history (IF!), most likely a number of them weren't actually pitbulls.

Another thing, I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I heard it from my cousin: The name "pitbull" came from when the breed was first around. They used to take the dogs, dig huge holes (pits), put 2 in at a time, and bet on which one would die first. Similar to what they do today, no?

Yes, this breed was born to kill. So was every other breed on the planet.

spoken like a totally mature SMART person - I loved what you said megan....how old are you again ??

Pitts are beautiful dogs - I feel so bad they get such a bad rap but the percentage of attacks in Houston are usually by a pitt. I blame the OWNERS but I would still be very worried if my girls were ever around a strange pitt - which is why they never will be.

I agree 100%, V. I'd be worried if any of my dogs were around a strange pit, or any strange dog for that matter.

Bigger dogs have the bad reputation because peoples report them when they bite . Most peoples won't report if they are bitten by a small dog . The majority of the peoples just say its a small dog .

Just yesterday I saw a man kick the crap out of one...It mad me sooo sad, I wanted to run the guy over with my car!

I WOULD have run him over.....and explained later...

I blame the owners too , some of them are so cowards , if someone ask why their dogs are so aggressive , most of them will answer " TO PROTECT ME ".

As a tre teen I grew up with a american pit bull dog... he loved us and we loved him so much when I oldest brother went to pick them up his father was bring down a BULL... my brother had to stay in the car and the other pit bulls were on top of his car trying to go thru the windshield after him.... when he got home with the pup 6 weeks old (that's when you can sell them if they are o.k with vet's ok in Georgia) We had that pup from the age of 6 weeks you could hold him in your hand... Well as he grew he began MEAN he bite my grandmother my brother had to pull him off of her she had to go to the ER.If we all was outside with him and somebody pull up and got out before someone could put him up, they were going to be in trouble that dog would bite anybody that he didn't know.... When he was youger my mother rest her soul took him to the vet and they threw a muzzle at her and told her to put that on him before coming in, and this is when he was young... So ya'll can say it's the OWNER FAULT all you want to, It's HOW THEY ARE BREED!! Have you ever been to a pit fight? I have and I cried for days. They are beautiful dogs the one down the road from me is beautiful.

This is a true story my dad pit bull name was SPIKE!!!! He died of old age.

Ellen - that's a sad story about your pit. I'm sorry that happened. But, from the way you described the dogs on top of the car, it sounds to me like the breeder may not have been the best if that was their temperment.
