| My furkids Donating Member | I would watch it for tenderness, redness and swelling....make sure you washed it out good....MY cat bit my Mom on the arm....(for no reason other than she stopped patting him)she washed it out really good...that night her arm began to swell and get very painfull...she had to sleep with her arm elevated on a pillow...she called the doctor the next day and he told her to go to the ER...they put a shunt in her hand and she had to have IV meds everyday for 3 days...I would be very careful with cat bites...they are worse than dog bites.

Well, sad news about the kitten. His new family took him to get checked out today and he's not going to make it This is so sad...They were already attached... I'm off to the doctor to get a shot and meds, although today my finger feels fine. | |

| They need to know about the bite before the kitten is disposed of. |

| I Love Thor Donating Member | I spent 4 hours in the ER today. It'a the only place that administers the Rabies vaccines and aminoglobbin (or something like that). I had FOUR SHOTS! Basically my doctor told me that it's better to be safe than sorry, cause if I caught rabies, and didn't treat it...I'd die. So...basically it was a horrible day today! |

| I was talking to a friend about cat bites yesterday. He said one of his friends was bitten in the leg by their house cat. It got horribly infected, his leg swelled to three times its normal size, he became violently ill (high fever, vomiting, headaches, the works) and ended up being hospitilized for several days until they got everything under control. Yikes! I'm sorry you had such a rough day... But like the doc said, better safe than sorry... It stinks when you do something nice and then it comes back to (literally!) bite you! |

| I'd have it checked out. Before my hubby and I were married, he once got scratched by my mom's cat -- it was worse than a scratch. She jumped off the stairs and scratched Jim from his chest all the way around his back!! It was awful and it happened in a matter of seconds. Her nails tore through his shirt and ripped his flesh -- there was blood everywhere. Jim immediately began having trouble breathing, so we rushed him to the ER. Turns out he had a severe allergic reaction to the cat. They even kept him at the hospital over night!!

Yeah...we took in a cat last year and bathed her...she didn't like that, and scratched my arm. I ended up taking a round of antibiotics cuz I contracted a type of staph!! I was scared to death...the wound looked nasty, thank God the medicine worked...I have a small scar that reminds me to be more cautious with cats in general!!
