| Ebay Warning This is a heads up for all of my friends at YT. There has been lots of mention of buying things for cheap on Ebay. Yesterday, I learned that my Ebay account had been hacked and someone changed the email address associated with it. They used my ID to list several expenseive items for sale, including a back hoe! I got the heads up when Ebay sent me an email advising my request for a change of email address had been processed, but I never made such a request. When I went to sign in to see what was up, I could not access my account. Fortunately it does not appear that they accessed any of my financial info, but they did have access to my name, address and phone number. This is very scary. I have had to change all of the passwords on all of my Ebay and email accounts. I suggest you make it a habit to change all of your important passwords every 90 days or less (email, online banking, ebay, paypal). Use passwords that cannot be easily hacked by softwear, such as mixing upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols like @ and &.

| Oh So sorry to hear this.. about 4 to 5 months ago a phoney Ebay message saying "congratulations you are eligible to be a power seller" please click here and apply.. yada yada well that is all they would need to log on change passwords.. but then again that could also be a phoney letter to get you to re-enter your Info again. Please do not do this ...If in Doubt of any mail from paypal or ebay send it to Spoof@ebay.com spoof@paypal.com they will contact you and let you know if indeed this was true?? I had recived something similar about my account being closed or accessed it wasn't true!

| Sorry about your experience. Don't freak out too much about the fact that they have your name address and number. They probably live in another state, or far enough from you. As long as they don't know your financial info or social security number, I think you should be fine. We leave so much info for magazine subscriptions, store catalogues and whatnot that I stopped worrying about that kind of info being out there. The good thing is that you realized what was going on before you got hurt.

| Someone tried to scam me TWICE during my last auction; I was selling an exensive item (a hot dog cart like the kind you see on the street of a large city). The first time a "potential buyer" asked me if it was teh same item for sale at a different "ebay auction;" the link was to a site in ROMANIA but the web site looked like an ebay site. I did not get fooled. The second one was a guy who tried to buy the item without bidding. I told him if he wanted it so badly, to please bid on it! |
