Default 5 yr old handcuffed at school

it was on the news today........ this five yr old girl was handcuffed so that she would be restrained........ i guess they were counting jellybeans in class and she got hers taken away, so the kid started DESTROYING THE ROOM (throwing books .... ect....) even hitting the teacher....... they could not control her so the police were called and they handcuffed her so she wouldnt hurt anyone.......... do you think she deserved this???

Well being a mother of four I do think she deserved it and I blame the parents for the way she acted. My children are very well mannered but we are pretty strict on them and I think in today's society we have to be. We live in an apartment complex where most of the parents around here do not discipline their children and they are out of control. I think that at only being 5 years old the parents still have time to change their childs behavior.

well....... i myself am a preschool assistant and have been for the last 5 yrs...... i agree with what they did, HOWEVER, i can not believe that the administration would allow her to remain at the school at all.... in a preschool program (or any program fro that matter) if a child is a danger then he or she can potentially be dropped from the program...... in california kindergarten is not mandatory it is optional, i would have told the motehr to take her kid and dont come back......... how much you wanna bet the mother is going to be suing someone???

Oh I agree and I'm sure she will try but in all honesty I do not see how she could possibly win.

I have to say it was a bit extreme but when you consider the danger she was putting other children in, it was probably the best thing. If anything the parents should be the ones to be blamed because discipline starts at home but Im thinking this a call for attention on the childs part. I am also strict with my children and that kind of behavior is not tolerated. There have been many atime when the terrible twos hit That we would leave where we were at because they would not listen. I have a two time rule if I have to ask more than twice we go home home or if we are at home there is time outs and grounding. NOw all I usually have to do is give the Look and they know i mean buisness lol. Actually I think it's the same look my mom used to give me when I was young lmao.

I agree with you, I thought well their just lucky she didn't go for another child.

I am so happy others thought this wasn't extreme. I don't have children yet, but when I heard it on my way to work I thought well good it sounds like she needs to be scared. When I watched it on the news I thought good she should be cuffed, look at what she did. My mom came in and said they think the girl could have been restrained with less people, she goes I can't remember how many time you would throw a fit and it was all I could do to restrain you!!! I'm better now

But what got me so aggravated was the anchor lady here said well she must have emotional issues or didn't take her meds. Well I lost it yelled at the tv and said or maybe it's that her parents don't correct her!!!!!! I don't know how many times I have seen or my boyfriend and I have seen kids misbehaving and the parents do nothing. We always say our mom's wouldn't have done that, we would have be spanked rigth there.

Oh and by the way the interviewed her lawyer on my new station....she's sueing...BIG SURPRISE

Default we cant do that today

i get this all the time at work....... kids throwing tantrums with parents,........ i will tell you why thigns have changed........ it is because of teh Social services......... a customer in walmart can call social services on a parent who spanked their child in teh store and be given the same credibility as a person that knows the child, the family, the situation, and the circumstances,.... when in reality,...... they dont.......
Im not saying social services isnt a good thing, because it is.... i myself have called several times on suspected abused chidlren, but they need to reevaluate the way that they screen the people that call..... someone who doesnt know the family should not be given the exact same credibility as a teacher or family member......... in short...... people CAN NOT disciplin their kids anymore for fear of getting a child abuse mark on their record (and those are PERMANANT BY THE WAY)..... i will be a teacher here soon, and hwo would that look if i had kids and someone called the child abuse hotline, making a ding on my record? i probably wouldnt get a job.....

Very Much So!! she assulted the teacher and damaged school property!
I applaud The way they handled that child! Just because she is 5 does not mean she can get away breaking laws!

I agree with you. My mom spanked me when I was acting up and it didn't hurt me, it anything I listened better. Time outs and grounding didn't do anything for me but a spanking, that spoke volumes and I stoped what I was doing. I got my mouth washed out with soap too, taught me not to say words I wasn't suppose to. When I was going through the early teenage years, I told my mom I was calling child services on her...well she said fine here's the number call them, oh and by the way you take only what you bought...well I didn't cause I knew I had it good plus I wouldn't have had anything to take with me!!!!

I had a lady I babysat for and she told me that when her child was visiting her dad she was acting soo bad tantrum the whole nine yards in a restraunt and she was 8 at the time. He took her out to the car and spanked her....some person called the cops and they were going to charge him...for what disiplining?

Aghhhh, It gets me so upset, I don't know what I'm going to do if/when I have kids. I believe in spanking and the soap thing but how am I suppose to correct my own child if someone might call the cops? My boyfriend and I have discussed it a few times he feels the same way, his mom did what my mom did and he learned just like I did.

My daugther is 4 yrs old and she knows better. I think it was extreme, but after knowing the circunstances I guess it was the only thing they can do to restraint her. Probably the mother will sue because this society sues for everything. I bet the 5 yr old learn that behavior at home, who knows maybe her parents fight in front of her and she thinks that is the way to act. I feel bad for that little girl cause is not her fault, is her parents.

I was upset about it when I heard it because I have two children and I know how scary that would be for my 6 year old son. But after seeing those tapes, now I feel like there was really nothing else that could have been done. The mother wouldn't even leave her job to come get her! (That shows a real responsible mother right there doesn't it?) I can't think of any other thing that teacher could have done better or differently. She removed the other children from the classroom, she didn't touch her and she didn't even yell at her. That was a day from hell for that poor lady! I think she did everything right. I do think it was a huge cry for attention from that little girl. She sure got a lot of attention for making that big scene, even negative attention is attention. It was interesting to see her sit right down and behave as soon as the police got there. I do feel bad for the little girl because it is not her fault the way she is being raised, and we don't know what kind of environment she has to grow up in. If her parents haven't taught her that there are consequences to her bad behavior, this experience certainly will. Although if her parents are suing unfortunately she will probably learn an entirely different lesson from this experience.

I especially appreciate the teacher removing the other children from the room. I would be very upset if my child was injured by another child that was uncontrollable in class and nothing was done about it. I would rather hear that a child was arrested than aloud to be near my son and throw things and hit. I would be a very MAD mommy!

obviously it is a regular occurance ............. they had the video tape recorder ready and waiting so that they could have undeniable "proof" of the child's abusive and undesciplined nature..... i think that video tape is the only thing that will save their butts from the courts
