| BANNED FOR NOT MAILING PRODUCTS PURCHASED | I'm so fed up with her shedding, her hair falls out by the clumps and it's gets everywhere, yesterday I was brushing her and I could have filled up a bag with her hair that came out, I yelled for the scissors and began cutting!!! It took me way over a hour and then I gave her a bath and she really hated me after that lol she looks so much better, I just need to take her and have her shaved so it's all even but I think I may keep her like this, she wants to be inside, she whines when she is out side unless were out there with her. anyone else shave there long hair big dogs? |

| I shaved my husky/shepard mix. We didn't do it this year though. I read before the season that (now take this with a grain of salt b/c I don't really know) when you shave huskies you aren't really helping in the long run. They say that you end up cutting that outer protective layer off then the thick under coat grows in thicker to help protect since the outer layer is gone. I don't know if its true or not. I still would shave mine knowing this though.... I had always heard not to shave them but never knew why so I shaved ours anyway and he looked like he felt so much better. We just didn't do it this year b/c he was still fairly short from last year, I cut him later in the summer. He doesn't like to sit still that long but boy when its all over he really does seem to like it. Our vet shaves them, he says they use horse clippers, our dog clippers kept clogging not to mention probably almost died having to shave all that off. Oh and our vet has never mentioned anything about not shaving them. I saw one shaved at the vet the other day and she was gorgeous, she was also black and white with blue eyes, at least she looked black and white once she was shaved. I bet you and her both feel a lot better.

| I don't have a dog with a double coat, but I do have a cocker with alot of hair. I just shaved her today and she looks adorable and I am sure she feels better with all that hair off. I shave her every month and I will get bag fulls of hair. Her hair grows soooo fast and there is so much hair and it is really thick. Her hair is a pain to deal with, no matter if you brush her five times a day, every single day, her hair will still matt, which is why I just keep her shaved. When I worked at Petco, we had what you would call a shedless program. You would bring your dog in, and we would bath it and get all the shed out of the hair. This way you don't have to shave the dog and it he/she won't shed anymore. It really does work and it does not cost much. Oh and we got alot of huskies and shephards in for the shedless program.

| Shedding could also be contributed to Diet. I'm not saying you feed him bad food, but something in the food may be causing the excess of hair falling out. Just a recommendation.

| Huskies and Malamutes shed bad. They will always shed, and twice as much in the summer months.. A hair cut is a good idea for keeping down on the shedding. I use to shave my malamutes. I also used a metal whip. Helped a lot. If you don't know what I'm talking about it looks like a metal band bent in half with teeth on one side fastened to a handle. you brush the dogs hair with it and it pulls all the loose hair out. Also shaving a dog does not make them cooler. Just makes it easier for you. Dogs are not like humans they do not have sweat glands all over their bodies, like we do. They only sweat in their mouths (thats why they pant) and between their toes. (thats why some dogs like to put their feet in their water dishes.)
