| Should I shave my cat??? Okay so this may be the weirdest thing ever posted but here goes: I have three beautiful kitties in addition to my beloved Yorkie, Bella. Two of the cats shed, but not toooooo bad... just a little bit. Well, we adopted an all white cat (Whisper) a year ago and she sheds soooooooooooooooooo bad. There is white fur EVERYWHERE. No matter how much I clean, and brush her, her hair is all over the place. It's so frustrating because I'm afraid to have anyone over to eat, or bake for food fest because I know one of her hairs may end up in the food. I don't want to get rid of her because she's been re-homed numerous times so I'm wondering if I could shave her. I'd leave her head furry but I'd shave her body... I'd use like a #2 setting so she wouldn't be bald... just shaved. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | LOL you can shave her if you want. give her a lion cut. i'm sure she'll still be cute. I have a cat as well and he usually adds the "special ingrediant' to whatever we are cooking

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I wouldn't. I would call your vet and ask them how you can control the shedding whether it thru diet or supplement vitamins....OR - you can do what I used to do with my Cat... who was a wannabe Dog.....he LOVED to be vacuumed LOL ! |

Pfffffffffffttt! The vacuum probably wouldn't work being that all of the pets (well... not the turtle) are TERRIFIED of the vacuum and go running in every direction when I pull it out of the closet (and this is before it's turned on!). | |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i brush my all black cat with a slicker brush a couple times a week. i also have one of those glove ones. but to get the most hair off him, he likes to be ruffed up by being petted all over his body really fast with some pressure, and then brushed. this gets alot of the under coast out

| This is the reason I don't have cats ... the shedding and allergies. I would shave -- I bet it will look cute.

| Science Diet Hairball control formula works wonders at stopping shedding! My husband just shaved our Himylayan cat, and she looks like she got into a cat fight and lost! She is so ugly now!!! I use to take her to the groomers to get shaved once during the summers. They do a much better job! Husband just got a little too happy with the clippers. She still loves us though. |

| Thanks for everyones comments/suggestions! @ Annabelles_mom: Wow! I'm surprised to read that someone else has shaved their cat! I thought what I was suggesting was ridiculously unheard of! LOL. Maybe I'm not brushing enough. I think I feared over-brushing would stimulate shedding. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | people with long haired cats sometimes shave them down in the summer into a lion cut. basically the hair is left on the head, tail and legs (trimmed shorter here) and the rest of the body is shaved. I think its the cutest thing

| A friend's girlfriend has her Persian shaved into a lion cut. It's actually kinda cute... Here's a few examples I found... Our white cat sheds a ton too... I've found that switching her food to Royal Canin Skin Care 30 has really helped to reduce the amount of hair she loses.... They make Missing Link for cats too. Their dog formula has been helping my pups' coats, I'd imagine the cat stuff works just as well. |

| warning if your cat has never been shaved before.. he or she may not react very well with the new sounds and sensations. I would slowly introduce the clippers and until you feel he or she is comfy with them being near or on her body brushing her or him daily with a slicker brush. I also highly recommend Missing Link for cats. Best of Luck. Hope our recommendations help.

| Do you bathe your cat at all? I usually start giving mine baths in the summer just to get all that hair off. We really get a lot off in the tub. I also got a zoom groom for one of my dogs and was so anxious to try it so I used it on the cat and it worked great. You can use it during bath time, while you are shampooing use this to scrub the cat. We have two cats one long hair that sheds in clumps and it didn't work so well on him but the other who sheds hair every where and not in convenient clumps that you can pick up it worked great on. It might be worth a try. Oh I haven't tried it on a dry cat so I don't know how it works then. Here it is, we got the dog one but they are the same, maybe just a different size. http://www.petsmart.com/global/produ...zoom+groom&N=2
