Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Cesar Millan Sued for Animal Cruelty Dog Whisperer' Cesar Millan Sued By TV Producer POSTED: 9:00 am EDT May 5, 2006 LOS ANGELES -- A television producer is suing dog trainer Cesar Millan, star of TV's "The Dog Whisperer," claiming that his Labrador retriever was injured at Millan's LA training facility after being suffocated by a choke collar and forced to run on a treadmill. "Eight Simple Rules" producer Flody Suarez said he took 5-year-old Gator to the Dog Psychology Center on Feb. 27 to deal with fears of other dogs and strangers. Hours later, Suarez claims, a worker called to inform him the animal had been rushed to a veterinarian. The suit claims he later found the dog "bleeding from his mouth and nose, in an oxygen tent gasping for breath and with severe bruising to his back inner thighs." The facility's workers allegedly placed a choke collar on the dog, pulled him onto a treadmill and forced him to "overwork." Suarez says he spent at least $25,000 on medical bills and the dog must undergo more surgeries for damage to his esophagus. The complaint claims breach of contract, fraud, animal cruelty and intentional infliction of emotional distress, among other allegations. It seeks more than $25,000 in damages. | I have often said he is too rough. He does yank on those dang choke collars. It may not have been him that damaged this particular dog. I am thinking he has plenty of staff now at this facility, and it could have been anyone. However, the training methods are Milan's.

| I try to watch this show whenever it's on and I do like it, you can learn a lot about the psychology of dogs and what makes them do what they do. I haven't really seen him do anything that I wouldn't want him to do to my dog. This could just be the negligence of the attendant on duty and not directly Cesars fault, but since it's his 'company' he's the one named in the lawsuit.

| I think he is great and I don't think he would ever hurt a dog or employ anyone that he thought would - but he can't be everywhere all the time. I'm not sure what happened, but I think Cesar is a very good trainer.

| I'm think too, that it was probably an employee that got impatient with the dog, and took it upon himsef to discipline it. You're right, he can't be everywhere, and trained people don't always do what they were trained to do. I've been watching him all night tonight, I love his methods, and I believe they work. Chachi has started barking at the cats. Even though he is only 12 weeks old, when he started to bark I touched him, like Ceasar does, and only had to do it twice before he laid down and left the cat alone. |

| I've never watched him, but I've been told some pretty negative things. Of course, I won't form an opinion myself without more info. But, does he support the use of choke collars in training? Even if it was an employee, and it most likely was, people pay good money to use his facility because of his name. I firmly believe that as the owner, he's every bit as responsible. It's his responsibility to make sure that his staff is well-trained and properly supervised. What happened to that dog did not happen in a vacuum, if the facility is that big, where were the other employees? |
