...talk about not knowing your avian species, LOL. It was cold and rainy and he was injured, so I took him home to nurse him if I could and contact his owners if I could find them. I had a pharmacist friend who raised racing pigeons and called him to help me find the owner by the band number and sure enough, I found the owners in another town....I think they had let the pigeons off in Reno or something like that...not sure where they were supposed to be racing to, unless it was home which for them, was Petaluma. I kept him in a cage in my bedroom, kept him warm, dressed his wounds and he got well after a couple of weeks. I put him in my dove cage outside, but he was much larger than my doves and he pecked at them, so I had to separate them and get his owners to come get him and take him home, LOL. Hopefully, he lived a long and healthy life after that. I think they might live forever; I've got a dove that's at least 12 yrs old, is semi-psychotic and I swear, he's gonna outlive me!

| I did not read past this post....I'm sure he is a "homing pigeon". The guy I used to buy my dog food from had them....I'm surprised people still use them (though it isn't a bad thing; more of a sport). |
