| 12 yrs old lhasa apso with hip dysplasia??? Okay... Help... We have been to the vet... done the xrays...... But... he did not find any reason for why Nikki (our 12 yrs old lhasa apso) back leg is giving way... She has a hard time getting up after a nap... or getting up after going tee tee... some time she walks on three legs... I just dont know waht to do... I am going to take her back into the vet to see if there is any thing we can do... We lost her litter brother on January 2nd to Kidney failure... We actual though she was getting sick... because she stop eating for two days... but it turned out her brother was getting sick... she knew it, but we did not...Since then she has not been the same... ( she did do some morning and sometimes she sniffs for him) My husband just keep son saying "She is just getting old" but I dont know... Yesterday she went down the steps to go potty and could not get up... she just sat in the grass until i got her... It just broke my heart... My Nikki is a little fighter... at two years old she developed a slip disk in her spine near her neck.. and after trying non surgical treatments and waching her cryin pain if we toched her, we arranged to have a specialist fly in and perform surgury on her neck. It costed us an arm and leg. After that, the Vet said she would be like a old woman... But no... she went on to be a very active little puppy girl...She has seen us through the birthof three kiddos, Moves form Miami, to memphis, to atlanta and now Mobile.... but now she has started slowed down at 12 years old.. Does any one know about hip dysplasia... I really dont know what to do about this...

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My 9 year old pom is having trouble with getting up from laying down especially on wood ot tile floors and will want me to pick her up from outside a lot of times. The vet said she couldn't see anything wrong but to put her on glucosomine.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | It might not be hip dysplasia. Little dogs are prone to back problems as they age. It may be a disc is pressing against a nerve that runs to that back leg. We had a dog that acted like this when she got older. We gave a baby aspirin every morning. Some days obviously her back hurt more than others.

| Momofthree, Hi! I currently live in Mobile also. I have a 2 year old Lhasa Apso that is have some discomfort in his right leg it seems. When er pick him up he yelps, and sometimes he climbs stairs very slowly (but he used to run up them and jump like no other!) It has been about 3 weeks now. He doesn't play with his brother (a yorkie) and wrestle like they used to, and we have been to the vet. The did the physical exam and she felt all the bones and muscles in his right hind leg and hip and even back. she didn't feel anything abnormal, but did put him on some anti-inflammatory meds and says if he is still favoring it we may need to do an xray. It seems like we are having the same problem. What I found strange is that he will still run in circles chasing his tail (so I'm thinking maybe his back isn't hurting him, and maybe it is not this)... but I am not sure, and hate to go this with the vet. The xray is about $120, SO I may need to do that and see, but I hate for the vet to say "we don't see anything wrong" like yours did. |
