| ![]() As many of you know I have posted about some very sad things that have happened in my life lately. Well today just tops it off. I got a phone call today around 11 from my father-in-law. He was out of town on business and my mother-in-law and sister-in-law were in a car accident. The terrible part was that they had a nine month old baby with them that my sister-in-law babysits. To make a long story short, they were driving down the interstate in Collinsville, Oklahoma. And they were following a dump drunk. The wind picked up a pew out of the dump druck bed and threw it through the wind shield of my mother-in-laws truck. It went right between the two front seats and into the back seat where the baby was. Needless to say it crushed his chest. When they finally came to a stop my sister-in-law jumped out of the truck and opened the back door and got him out from behind the pew, and out of the car seat. He quit breathing in her arms, but she was able to get him to start breathing again. He was life flighted to St. Francis hospital in Tulsa where he died about 11:30. My mother in law has a broken arm from trying to put her hand up to stop it from going into the back seat. My sister-in-law walked away with minor cuts. When I got to the hospital the babies mom was there with my mother and sister-in-law. I didn't know what to say. We were just crying and crying. And all his mom kept saying to them was its not your fault, please don't blame yourself. ![]() ![]() Here is the link to the story, the only thing is that it is not completely correct. The baby was in the back seat, not the front. And the pew didn't hit him in the face. It hit him in the chest area http://www.kotv.com/main/home/storie...age=1&id=98937

| ![]() I read the story. I am so sad for everyone involved. I just can't believe this. I'm not sure what a pew is, but I HATE it when people drive around with stuff in the back, esspecially on the freeway and they don't hold it down. I almost got hit by a camper shell when it fell of a truck. Thank god I decided not to follow him very closely when I saw it moving. So if you are behind a truck or someone hauling something, try to move into another lane or follow from way behind. I have seen some crazy people stack stuff very high in a truck. Please let your family know that it was really the truck driver's fault, he should have been responsible for his load. This is so tragic. |

| ![]() Thanks so much. It was actually an old church pew. That you would sit in during mass. It was like a bunch of old stuff from a church or something that was being torn down probably. The back of it was off, so it was mostly like a bench without the legs. I saw it when we went to get somethings out of the truck. They had it laying there next to the truck. It was HUGE! It had to be longer than my van. And it looked very heavy. The truck looks so bad in person. The car seat was still in there. They are holding the truck for three days for evidence. It is so terrible. I know I never want to see that thing again. Even if it is fixed up, there is no way thatI could ever drive it. I took some pictures of the truck and the pew that hit it. I am not going to put any of them here though. It's just for legal purposes. The driver did not have the things tied down at all. And when it happened, he came back and asked if everyone was ok, after the a$$ chewing he got he went back to the truck and started to try to cover up his load!!! He didn't even offer to call 911. My poor sister-in-law had to dig through the truck to find a phone to use. I just got off the phone with her a minute ago and she and his mom are going to go take more pics of the truck tommorow since all I had was a camera phone. They have to have them for attorneys and stuff like that. The thing that makes this so terrible to me is that it could have been prevented if the driver would have taken five minutes to just tie down the load. He may have gotten away with saying that he had it tied down too, but the shot in the news showed otherwise. This trucking company is going to pay for this! I think that it should be completely illegal to drive with anything back there and not have it covered. It justs makes since. How many people are going to have to be killed before we finally make it illegal!

| Oh Heather, what a horrible thing to happen to your family!! Please know that I will have everyone in my thoughts and prayers. If I can share, I'll try to keep it short... My best friend went through something similar. She was taking her daughter and her boyfriend back to college when someone hit them and the boyfriend was killed. (My friend was battered with some broken bones soft tissue loss and her daughter had a broken clavicle and some bruising.) They were hit from behind and there was nothing that she could have done to prevent it. They are from a large and VERY close family with lots of friends and support and a very strong faith. Even with all of that, neither of them really began to heal until they started getting professional help quite a few months later. Being good Catholics, they were both so full of guilt and grief that it took medication to finally help them see their way through it. After seeing all that they went through while I (and everyone else) wasn't able to help them, I would strongly urge you to try to get your MIL and SIL into counseling as soon as possible. There is no way that we can ever imagine the horror that they saw and heard and felt. May God bless you all and give you the strength to make it through this.
