If I can share, I'll try to keep it short... My best friend went through something similar. She was taking her daughter and her boyfriend back to college when someone hit them and the boyfriend was killed. (My friend was battered with some broken bones soft tissue loss and her daughter had a broken clavicle and some bruising.) They were hit from behind and there was nothing that she could have done to prevent it.

They are from a large and VERY close family with lots of friends and support and a very strong faith. Even with all of that, neither of them really began to heal until they started getting professional help quite a few months later. Being good Catholics, they were both so full of guilt and grief that it took medication to finally help them see their way through it.

After seeing all that they went through while I (and everyone else) wasn't able to help them, I would strongly urge you to try to get your MIL and SIL into counseling as soon as possible.

There is no way that we can ever imagine the horror that they saw and heard and felt.

Thank you for sharing your story. My sister-in-law is already on anti-depressants for before the accident. And from what I hear they are really strong ones. I am doing everything that I can to get them both into some additional therapy. It is hard since I live in Arkansas. I may have to go back over there today or Friday to help Lesa out. Because poor Amber is such a mess. She was like a mom to little Brett too. She cared for him most nights since his mom (stacy) has to work the night shift. Amber(sister-in-law) has a crib and all the baby stuff for him. It was really bad when I brought him home from the hospital yesterday. She just broke down in my arms. She just kept trying to gather some of his things to give to Stacy. I just kept holding her, and telling her to take a moment to breath.

Oh no!!! Heather, my deepest condolences to you and your family and the baby's mommy...I couldn't believe what I was reading. This is such a tragedy. I know this is going to be so hard for your s-i-l and m-i-l...I don't even know what to say! That truck driver could have prevented it all by just tying down the stuff...Soooo sad

Sometimes you read one post and it affirms what awful really is. I am so sorry for everyone involved and can't imagine the pain and guilt involved. Prayers and blessings for healing in this terrible, terrible tragedy.....

oh my gosh. im so sorry. this is always a fear i have because i watch a baby also. i treat them as they were mine i can't imagine what your s-i-l is going through. my prayers go out to your family and the babies family.

Thanks so much for all your wishes. I just talked to Amber my sis. And she said that the media is calling like crazy trying to get her to do interviews. I told her to tell them all no. Since it is an investigation, and there will be lots of lawsuits she just needs to say nothing to them right now. She said the highway patrol is coming over to ask more questions today. I had to help her talk to them yesterday as well. It is just so much for a 16 year old girl to deal with. I wish I was still over there today so I could help her.

I am so sorry that this has happened- your sister is smart not to talk to the media- they don't get much right (just like the first story they did, they didn't have where the baby was sitting correct even)

Today was the funeral for little baby Brett . God bless that sweet baby boy! May he play in heaven with all the other angels! God knows we were so lucky to be with him for the short time!

My mother in law, Lesa, is now home from the hospital. She is doing good, just on lots of pain pills.

I just talked to my sis, Amber she is staying with Bretts mommy tonight to keep her company. She said that she is doing ok. Trying to take it day to day.

Please continue to say prayers for her, and for everyone involved.
