I am a Admin Assist for an oil and gas company processing Joint Interest Billing, maintianing production reports and paperless filing system. This was a career change and huge move from my home town of Houston. It was one of those decisions in life where you needed a change and to get away of negative people and situations. Prior to my current job of 7 years I was an Oil and Gas Regulatory Specialist/Operations Tech. Basically would take care of the permiting and regulatory issues for onshore and offshore drilling/production operations in the Gulf of Mexico. Also assist the engineers with misc stuff. |
I agree...what a diverse group we have here with their jobs! I am the medical records manager for a long term acute care hospital. I also do some physician credentialing (we are a small facility so we all were many "hats"). In addition to this, I serve on the local board for our youth baseball association, full time mother to 2 teenagers (well, the youngest will be 13 next month) and 2 furbabies. My youngest plays on a select traveling tournament baseball team and I keep the stats for that (he's been playing select ball since he was 8 and I've been keeping the stats that long). And my hubby (Sam) works for the fire department here. I want to say a quick thank you to all of you for sharing a piece of your life in this thread. It's another great way to get to know you all! You all have really exciting jobs!!!! I was a Student Supervisor for 14 years. But After adopting three of our Special Ed Students, I became a stay at home Mom. We own a Construction Business, my Husband and I started it around 26 years ago. I kind of help my husband, I write out pay roll checks on Fridays, and collect rent from our properties once a month. But mostly I don’t do anything but take care of our children and furbabies all day. We have two in Pre Med, two in High School and 1 having our second Grand Child. All live at home except for our Daughter and Grandson. Oh and I do shop a lot, it’s kind of addiction, my husband tells everyone the manikins wave to me when I pass them in the stores. :) |
I am a stay at home mom to an 18mo old and a furbaby. Before I had my son, I worked in the OR as an anesthesia tech and was in school to get my RN. I planned on going back to school to finish that once my son started school, but we are now expecting our second child, so it will now be put off until that one starts school. After the RN, I wanted go go on to become a CRNA. My hubby just got a job in GA as a Mechanical Engineer and we will be moving there in a couple of weeks! |
During the day I work for an engineering company. At night I train dogs. |
I work as a Testing Specialist for county school system. All the standardized tests come out of my office. My main responsibility is to order materials from the state, prepare those materials to go out to schools (22 schools with 12,000+ students) collect them back/account for all and score tests then report the data. There is a whole lot that goes with that but that's it in a nutshell. Right now I'm writing a database to score benchmark tests. That's the fun part to me. I enjoy my work since it's not the same thing day after day and the pay is decent but I do have to work 12 months a year....I'm not one of the lucky ones like at the school level that work 10 months a year. Benefits are great since they are state benefits and I did just take 7 weeks off to care for my dad and then came back to get pneumonia and be out another 2 days and didn't even get a cross look so you can't ask for much better. |
I am a COA. (certified ophthalmic assistant) Basically I assist the eye Dr's in a clinic. It's pretty fun, I have been doing it for almost 9 years. I want to have another baby though and maybe look for a job in the school system in the health office or helping special education children. I can't do that though until the Dr that I work with retires! I can't leave him, I've been with him too long and I think my partner would have a heart attack!!!!!!! |
insurance agency owner I own an insurance agency with American Family Insurance. I do everything here from agent and service stand point. I am at the point that I am getting ready to hire. My son has been trying to pass the test but no luck so far. This is a very stressfull, competative job but does give you flexibility and freedom |
I just recently graduated and received my MBA and now work for a major Consumer products company as a Marketing gal and Media buyer/planner. I'm also a Public Relations Director for a Chrisitan Church. |

I am the coordinator of public relations and development for an area not-for-profit. I hate doing the development work, though. I am looking for another PR job or would like to get into pharmecuetical sales. |
Judging by the diversity of our yorkie talk friends occupations, we should all be able to ask for any medical, legal, financial, or jail conditions advice needed... ;) I am co owner of a prodomiently male business with my brother. We sell automotive service equipment. This is the equipment you find in service bays of auto repair shops or dealerships (ie. lifts, tire changers, balancers, etc). I've been called honey, sweetie, cupcake  by male customers...right up until they realize I know and understand this equipment :D If you've been in a Walmart service center, Sam's, Tire Kingdom, plus literally dozens of others in Virginia....you've "seen" our work. Being the boss does not mean you get to take off whenever you want to....it means you work MORE and worry about the money coming in vs going out....it DOES mean ya can check yorkie talk whenever ya want ;) |

I have a background in PR and was going to go to law school right out of undergrad, but I feel that I need to get my feet on the ground instead of going right into law school and accumilating $120,000 in debt. I love love love doing PR and I feel I need to find something that is a bit more stimulating than the position I have now :p |

And I deal with it everyday~ Men come in and Explain something or as a question,,and I answer it, then they say " I need to talk to one of the guys." I then say " Well they are busy repairing automobiles and there time is WAY more valuable than mine, plus they'll tell you the same thing I just did!" Then they are usually speechless, and listen to what I have to say. Sign behind my desk~ Do you want to talk to the MAN in charge or the WOMAN that knows what's going on? :D |

The cutesy name callin doesn't really bother me, in fact being called cupcake made me laugh...it was a first...truth of the matter...I've been called far worse |
I'm a copy editor for a newspaper. Next time, we'll have to do weirdest job, too. Mine was my first job. I worked at a pickle factory. Kruger & Sons, Home of the Happy Pickle, in Hayward, Calif. I'm always impressed and jealous of YTers' lives! |

But no, not selling pickles, MAKING pickles. I'd have to stand up on these huge vats, and someone on a forklift would dump cucumbers in on me. I would have to level them off and salt them. After about a week, I made the decision to go to college. Then again, now the bosses dump worse stuff than cucumbers on me. |

Did you ever get hit with a flying cucumber LOLOL |

By the time that Friday rolls around every week I am so ready to get away from here!!!! Other than that my job is really easy I dont do a whole lot of anything except for sit on YT all day and read magazines |

I'm certainly not winning any prizes for the best/most fun job... I'm an underwriter for an E&S insurance broker. |

I'm a stay at home mom & a student. I absolutely love being a stay at home mom. I'm really enjoying school as well. Much more so than I did at 19. |
I love my job!! My very very FAVORITE job is "Rock Star", but since I don't do that anymore, I am a mortgage broker!! I have been doing mortgages now for about 12 years, and I absolutely adore my job! I work with over 40 different lenders and can pretty much find a mortgage loan for just about ANYBODY, even people who have had really bad credit issues in the past, foreclosures, bankruptcies, etc. One of the best things about my job is helping first time homebuyers get a house. They are soooooo CUTE!! So scared and helpless, kinda like little puppies!! I get to hold their hand and walk them through the process every step of the way, and when they are done with the closing and they get that front door key handed to them, well... I am getting cold chills right now thinking about the shining light of joy on those faces!! It makes me feel like a goddess!! :D I do first time homebuyer classes, and that's cool too. It's amazing how little people actually know about credit and financing. I sure wish educators would concentrate more on teaching our kids the importance of good credit. I also love getting single women into houses! It sure is quite the empowering thing! :D Gee, I really DO love my job, don't I?? |
I'm a Small Business Owner/Child Care Provider. This is the most fulfilling career I've ever had, working with children is the BEST! I am new to YT and still in the research stage but i'll be a Yorkie "Mom" soon enough. I am thankful to have found such an informative site and great potential forum buddies! All of the dogs I've seen on this site are so beautiful and loved and that warms my heart. I to hope I can give a lil furbaby such a loving home & family. (I have tried to post this message like 3 times...LOL...still tring to figure out how the reply works) |
Well. I get paid to feed my kids, play with my dogs, type on YT, surf the web, take a nap around 2:00, talk on the phone, wash clothes/dishes/dogs/kids. Wow!!! I do alot to be unemployed! :D |

Found this old thread And found it terribly interesting. Feel like I know most of you a little better now. Are there any more newbies like me who missed this? If so, 'fess up! I am a retired City Secretary. Also, seemed like there were quite a few either in or from the Houston area? How many in a 100 mile range?? I would fit in that category. |
