| Tinsel? Does anyone else use this on trees, anymore? I always have but I am thinking about going tinsel free this year cuz all of the modern trees seem to be tinsel-free...or am I imagining this as a trend? Thanks! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I've never used tinsel, but it was on my tree as a kid and I liked it!! I say, do what feels fun/right for your tree bc it's yours ! If you feel like going tinsel free, you could always substitute the tinsel for ribbon, bows, little sparkly glittery doo-dads.

| Anne you are a beautiful person for taking pity on me and replying to my post. My in-laws are coming over for Thanksgiving and I normally have the tree up. I really wanted to make an impression by trying something different to celebrate the end to a long year. Thank you! xoxox |

| I like the idea of tinsel, but I have a fake tree and I'm afraid Lola would try to eat it. I hate putting garland on the tree, it's the hardest part. |

| I use tinsel on my tree....my tree is in the living room, away from the dogs....and when I do have the tree up in the family room, I encircle it and all the gifts with a 22 in high xpen to keep the babies from going up under the tree to get to gifts or even reaching the branches to get into trouble with decorations! I have a "gold" colored xpen so it is not so glaringly evident as a "fenced in" Christmas tree! I had the most adorable pic that I took about 3 years ago, with the decorated tree and all the gifts, all surrounded by a gold xpen....and there sat 3 of my little dogs, all looking adoringly up at that tree and all the neat decorations they would have each given a leg to get ahold of!!!! It was a really adorable pic!! I wish I had made a Christmas card out of that pic! |

| I love the idea of a gold ex pen around the base of the tree. We put up a tree a few years ago and Uni was always going up underneath and hanging out. I didn't have anything to keep her from going under there. As for the tinsel, I like the kind that is separate as far as how it looks, but it gets really messy. I don't care for the old style tinsel that comes in a big fat strand. We used to do that when we were kids in the 80s. I like the wide twisted ribbon look, more of a Victorian Christmas. But like what Ann said, it's your tree, do whatever you want!

| Thanks all!!!! I think I'm ready to move away from tinsel but the teenager put up a fight saying it was integral to her x-mas experience..haha. I tried to persuade her that tinsel (garland) was no longer fashionable but she won't budge on her opinion. Anyway, since it's my tree and house and not hers , I'm not going to use garland this year and am doing so guilt free. Thanks all! Another problem solved via YT! |
