Since you have a potentially deadly reaction to alcohol, I would avoid it. Might get into the bloodstream even just gargling. Listerine is 23% alcohol.

Alcohol rehab recommends not using mouthwash containing alcohol because it is too tempting. The taste can trigger a desire to drink.
Thanks for the heads up. We use listerine!

The hospital is giving me a low fat low cholesterol diet, but it's far from health food. You know the food in hospitals is pretty much on par with jail food. Processed, cheap, not high in vitamins and minerals, or fiber for that matter. But yes I need to avoid high fat foods for at least a few months, if not longer. Sucks bc I love pork belly, chicken skin, bacon, sausage, steak, etc. I'm not that big of a snacker, so I usually don't eat many chips, sweets, stuff like that. I do like an occasional shrimp chip, but there are Asian chips that are pretty low in fat. Just that msg though. Lol but I don't think msg is a problem for me. Speaking of which, I'm really craving Chinese food!

Thanks, I will look for those.

Congratulations on surviving your recent battle......you are a very strong person to be as sick as you were and come out on this side, intact and alive! You are certainly up to the fight ahead of you, reorganizing your diet/intake to avoid a re-occurrence of this nasty disease! Prayers for strength as you try to adjust your new life and diet to keep you in tip top shape.....loving the help and encouragement you are getting from your significant other!!!!
I was wondering about alcohol in cooking. I know when you put in wine or whatever, the alcohol cooks off. So if you use vanilla extract, you bake the cake or cookies, doesn't that cook off the alcohol? I'm not much of a sweets eater anyway, but wanted to know.

It is easy to think we are infallible when we are young and strong and stories like yours are terrifying reminders that so often end up very sad tragedies. I am so glad for your new start! I know it will be hard but I am sure you can do it, you are so strong- look at your survival drive! You will do great
Is your sister a heavy drinker? I was trying to tell my brother the same thing. He is a pretty heavy drinker. Not every day like I was, but when he drinks, he really drinks. Even if not getting sick like I did, but getting a DUI, or worse hitting someone. I hear stories of that all the time here in Vegas. Drunk driver hits man walking to work and kills him, and he has a family and newly married or something tragic like that. It's just not worth it.

WTG Priscilla, hope you do escape tomorrow. My, will your doggies be glad to see you!! Take it easy though and don't try and do too much and wear yourself out. Hope you enjoy your Chinese food and other culinary delights you have been missing. Hospital food is not the most tasty.

Bf has been bringing the doggies by daily for walks and visits. For that I am lucky they let me go outside. The other hospital I was on the 8th floor so that would have been a bit difficult. But he did sneak Toto in a few times. So I've seen them and I'm so grateful. I was really missing them for a while.

Is your sister a heavy drinker? I was trying to tell my brother the same thing. He is a pretty heavy drinker. Not every day like I was, but when he drinks, he really drinks. Oh my gosh! I hope you get out today that would be great. Yes, she drinks every day and about one night a week goes too far and has a black out drunk session. Same with my mother so I guess I figured that was a typical portrait of alcoholism. My dad gave me his aa book when I was twelve but by fourteen I was into other things and then I hitchhiked south to follow rainbow trails. God bless my babies, motherhood saved my life, I am sure of it. Visited the grave of my uncle yesterday on All Souls' Day to bring him flowers along with my grandparents, he died at twenty one in a drunk driving accident. My grandfather on my mothers side died of liver failure in his early forties and bled out on the kitchen floor in my grandmothers arms, in the room upstairs in the same house another uncle drank a half gallon of vodka and committed suicide- the list goes on but I will stop here. There are so many beautiful, wonderful people drowning in their own suffering and alcohol is a very dangerous one. I have to note here because I would be remiss if I did not, that my beloved is a beer brewer by trade. I don't personally drink beer but it is interesting- we come from different places on the topic. It is amazing to me to know someone who does not come from a line of addiction suffering and can't relate at all to my experiences- he honors my experiences and feelings and is very respectful. He probably has two beers with dinner once a week- if that. But his attitude toward alcohol is more lax then mine, I will have some red wine now and again but that is about it. I often do not finish my glass and I suppose it is my internal cautionary flag knowing that my blood lines do carry the bane of addiction. A lot of people who have not struggled with addiction can't understand and are often not supportive of your attempt to be free from whatever substance you are struggling with if for them it is not a challenge, so please be careful. You are in charge of your own body and you know what you need and how you respond and nobody else can know that like you can, so you keep yourself safe- no matter what anyone else is doing. You will go back to your home soon and everything around you will be like it was when you left it- you have changed though, and you have to hold on to that to protect yourself. So stay strong, cause here comes the hard part! But you can do it feel free to pm me, you have and will be totally on my mind and my heart goes out to you through your suffering and struggles.

I hope they get me out soon. Someone in the kitchen is messing up and gave me a liquid diet meal twice in a row now. Once for breakfast this morning and now again for lunch. I've been off of liquids for a week. It wasn't enough food already as it is.
