| ![]() [QUOTE=YorkieRose) God has a purpose for all of us on this earth..some of us are go through life with what may look like a burden to carry, but when we help each other carry their burdens, then we all make it just fine.[/QUOTE] Beautiful words, Pat. Heather, I too have seen unbelievalble things happen from something that at the beginning we feel we cannot handle. My oldest daughter has a best friend and their 7th child was born retarted. The Mom and Dad of course were beside themselves. As little Terry got older he taught ALL OF US so much about life. His brothers and sisters were all "A" students and they learned to accept people with less ability more easily etc etc and I could go on forever about what it did for my children. My daughter was amazed by his sense of humor and I really think that is why she decided to teach disabled children. She now has 11 children in her class and ea. one has a different problem and I don't know how she does it but she does and she loves it. Heather, if it were my baby I would feel just like you at this point but hold on to the fact there may be a "rainbow" waiting for you and your husband. I am going to call this afternoon and put you on our prayer list at church. Hugs.

Please take care of yourself, and we will all be here for you whenever you need to talk. | ![]() For Heather: Ode to Special Moms Most women become mothers by accident, some by choice, a few by social pressures and a couple by habit. This year, nearly 100,000 women will become mothers of handicapped children. Did you ever wonder how mothers of handicapped children are chosen? Somehow I visualize God hovering over Earth selecting his instruments for propagation with great care and deliberation. As he observes, he instructs his angels to make notes in a giant ledger. "Armstrong, Beth, son, patron saint, Matthew. Forrest, Marjorie, daughter, patron saint, Cecilia. "Rudledge, Carrie, twins, patron saint, give her Gerard. He's used to profanity." Finally, he passes a name to an angel and smiles, "Give her a handicapped child." The angel is curious. "Why this one, God? She's so happy." "Exactly," says God. "Could I give a handicapped child to a mother who does not know laughter? That would be cruel." "But has she patience?" asks the angel. "I don't want her to have too much patience or she will drown in a sea of self-pity and despair. Once the shock and resentment wear off, she'll handle it. "I watched her today. She has that feeling of self and independence that is so rare and so necessary in a mother. You see, the child I'm going to give her has his own world. She has to make it live in her world, and that's not going to be easy." "But, Lord, I don't think she even believes in you." God smiles. "No matter. I can fix that. This one is perfect. She has just enough selfishness." The angel gasps, "Selfishness? Is that a virtue?" God nods. "If she can't separate herself from the child occasionally, she'll never survive. Yes, here is a woman whom I will bless with a child less than perfect. She doesn't realize it yet, but she is to be envied. She will never take for granted a 'spoken word.' She will never consider a 'step' ordinary. When her child says 'Momma' for the first time, she will be present at a miracle and know it! When she describes a tree or a sunset to her blind child, she will see it as few people ever see my creations. "I will permit her to see clearly the things I see . . . ignorance, cruelty, prejudice . . . and allow her to rise above them. She will never be alone. I will be at her side every minute of every day of her life, because she is doing my work as surely as she is here by my side." "And what about her patron saint?" asks the angel, pen poised midair. God smiles. "A mirror will suffice." - Erma Bombeck, May, 1980

| ![]() I just wanted to jump on here and say how much it means to me that you have all written these wonderful things on here. They have touched my heart, as well as my families hearts. I have only been a member of yorkie talk for a few months now, and already you have all become so special to me. Anytime I feel down, I can get on here, and someone will be there to cheer me up. You are all like a second family to me. There are others here that have been through similar experiences, and are more than willing to lend a hand with questions, or even just be there to listen. I truely care so much for you all, and I hope that if any of you ever need me for anything, that I will be able to return the favor. By the way here are some pictures of him for you all to see, this is my sweet little baby Ayden Alexander!!

Heather really is a strong mom. I know her personally because Ayden had to come into the pediatrician's office so much to have his blood drawn. We got to know one another because the other nurses would call on me because Ayden is not the most generous little boy with his blood..:-) I could usually talk him out of it. Heather has impressed me in that she is so calm with Ayden. Especially with her other little ones around, she shows the patience of a saint. Heather is wise beyond her years, and I think God did bless her with Ayden because he knew she was the perfect Mommie for this precious boy.
